WHO WE ARE
We are working on behalf of a cutting-edge organisation that develops tools to assess the consequences of extreme weather linked to climate change. The team merges environmental science, data, and modelling into commercial decision-making.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a project-based position for an experienced climate scientist with a specialisation in storm system analysis, such as tropical cyclones, extra-tropical systems, and storm surge. You'll be joining a science unit that's refining hazard models, interpreting climate signals, and contributing to a growing library of actionable insights. Your scientific expertise will shape real-world decisions and product offerings.
DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Improve and calibrate internal models simulating intense storm systems
- Translate atmospheric data and climate projections into practical hazard risk indicators
- Work with earth system scientists, risk analysts, and geospatial experts on data integration
- Run model evaluations and contribute to quality assurance of simulation outputs
- Support explanation of model assumptions and findings to wider business and client teams
- Use programming tools (primarily Python) in remote/cloud environments for analysis
- Stay current with peer-reviewed research and bring scientific rigour to project outputs
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- At least 3 years' experience applying scientific research on extreme weather systems, either in industry or academia
- Experience building or improving models for tropical cyclones, storm surge, or related hazards
- Proficiency using Python for analysis in cloud-based or remote workflows
- Skilled communicator able to explain technical results to non-specialists
- Comfortable working at the interface of science and product development
- PhD (or equivalent research experience) in climate science, atmospheric modelling, or a related field ()
BONUS POINTS FOR EXPERIENCE IN
- Catastrophe model frameworks for wind or flood perils
- Bayesian statistics, probabilistic modelling, or extreme value theory
- Prior work on translating scientific climate data into decision-useful formats
