Te Tūranga | The Role
The Climate Solutions Engineer will play a crucial role in expanding Urban Intelligence's client base and market presence across New Zealand's climate adaptation sector. This position is ideal for an ambitious professional with 2-5 years of experience who understands climate challenges and wants to drive meaningful change by connecting organisations with evidence-based resilience solutions.
Working closely with our Customer Success and Research teams, you'll identify opportunities, build relationships, and develop proposals that demonstrate how our risk intelligence platform and consulting expertise can help organisations prepare for climate impacts. This role offers excellent growth potential within New Zealand's rapidly expanding climate adaptation market.
Kawenga Takohanga | Key Responsibilities
- Solution Scoping, Development & Proposal Support: Utilise your technical skills and knowledge to scope appropriate risk and resilience solutions to client needs.
- Solution Scoping, Development & Proposal Support: Collaborate with technical teams to develop compelling proposals, proof of concepts, and responses to RFPs.
Client Relationship Management
- Engage and share knowledge across existing and new clients.
- Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Conduct initial client meetings to understand their climate risk challenges and objectives.
- Manage client communications throughout the sales process.
- Ensure smooth handover to the Customer Success team after contract signing.
Lead Generation & Opportunity Development
- Identify and research potential clients and sectors (including, but not limited to regional councils, infrastructure providers, and private organisations) in New Zealand and abroad.
- Provide demos of the Resilience Explorer, clearly articulating the value proposition framed suitably for the client.
- Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline using Hubspot.
- Represent Urban Intelligence at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities, building awareness and credibility.
- Generate leads through direct connections, digital marketing, referrals, and partnerships.
Market Intelligence & Strategic Input
- Monitor industry trends, sector priorities, and regulatory developments in natural hazard risk management and climate adaptation.
- Analyse competition (features, pricing, positioning) and share with leadership and product.
- Support the Product team by providing market intelligence (client requirements) to inform the roadmap.
- Analyse and test pricing for new SaaS modules and services.
- Contribute the above research to business development strategies and market expansion plans.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure content and messaging aligns with sector needs.
Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako | Skills and Experience
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Engineering, Business, or related discipline.
- Preferably 2-5 years of client relationship management or business development experience.
- Understanding of climate change impacts and adaptation challenges in New Zealand.
- Proven track record in achieving business development goals and problem-solving.
Skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability
- Experience with CRM systems and proposal writing preferred.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business value propositions.
