Clinical Nurse Specialist in Rheumatology: Remote opportunity! Join Medefer, an innovative CQC registered healthcare provider, to transform patient care remotely. We are expanding our Rheumatology service and seek experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists to support early inflammatory arthritis (EIA) and complex disease clinics. Role Overview As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in early diagnosis, patient self‑management and evidence‑based treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune rheumatic diseases. You will work autonomously and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality remote and face‑to‑face care. Key Responsibilities Provide advanced specialist assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients with early inflammatory arthritis and complex rheumatological diseases. Conduct remote consultations (telephone) for diagnosis, treatment monitoring and long‑term condition management. Support patients on DMARDs and biologic therapies, including education, monitoring and management of adverse effects in line with local and national protocols. Run virtual nurse‑led clinics for disease monitoring, flare management and medication review. Deliver specialist advice, education and psychosocial support, promoting shared decision‑making and self‑management. Escalate concerns and collaborate effectively with consultants, pharmacists and other multidisciplinary team members. Contribute to the development, implementation and review of clinical guidelines, pathways and protocols for hybrid care. Represent the nursing perspective at MDT meetings and service planning discussions. Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive electronic patient records in compliance with UK professional and organisational standards. Participate in clinical audit, research and quality improvement initiatives related to remote rheumatology care. Provide patient education programmes tailored for remote delivery covering diagnosis, medication initiation, injection technique and symptom management. Qualifications, Experience and Skills Essential Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration. Minimum 5 years post‑registration experience in the NHS, including at least 2 years in Rheumatology. Evidence of post‑registration rheumatology qualification or equivalent clinical experience. Strong knowledge of DMARDs, biologics and immunomodulatory therapies. Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficient IT skills, with experience in electronic patient records and remote consultations. Compassionate and caring. Advanced communication and listening skills, excellent counselling, patient education and education delivery skills. Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and autonomously. Desirable Independent Nurse Prescriber (V300) qualification or working towards it. MSc or postgraduate diploma in Rheumatology or Advanced Clinical Practice.
