We are looking for a highly motivated Clinical Scientist to join our comprehensive Genetics Service at Synnovis Genomics laboratory, part of the South East Genomic Laboratory Hub (SEGLH) based at Guy’s Hospital. The postholder will work across both Prenatal and Reproductive Genetics and Developmental Disorders teams, providing prenatal and postnatal genetic testing via a variety of techniques such as QF-PCR, G-banded chromosome analysis and SNP array.

The successful applicant will be dedicated and enthusiastic with knowledge and experience of analysis, interpretation and reporting of genetic diagnostic results. Applicants should have good communication skills, be able to take initiative, support continual quality improvement and prioritise workload. The role requires consistent attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.

Applications are invited from Clinical Scientists in Genetics. Consideration will be given to suitably experienced candidates who are expecting their HCPC Registration imminently.

We support flexible and/or remote working patterns.

The postholder will be working across the Prenatal and Reproductive Genetics and Developmental Disorders teams, consisting of around 40 staff members in our technical and scientific teams. Our teams provide both a prenatal and postnatal genetic testing service, for a population of around 8.4 million people across South London and the South East, using QF-PCR, G-banded chromosome analysis, FISH and SNP array techniques.

The Main Duties Of The Role Include

  • Providing expert analysis and interpretation of complex results in the context of the clinical referral in one or more service areas
  • Responsibility for final checking and authorisation of a variety of reports across both PreRep and DevDis employing a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and expert scientific and clinical interpretation
  • Providing highly specialised scientific advice and communicating results of complex tests to service users
  • Taking an active role in the laboratory’s quality management system
  • Contributing to service development and improvement under the direction of the Operational Leads and/or the R&D Team

The South East Genomics Laboratory Hub (SEGLH) SEGLH is one of seven hubs that are commissioned to provide genomics services within England. It is led by the Synnovis Genomics laboratory based at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and is made up of a consortium of laboratory providers in the South London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex region.

Synnovis Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Foundation Trust Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Foundation Trust is a major emergency and specialist teaching Trust and is also home to the Evelina Children’s Hospital and the Cancer Centre on the Guy’s site.
