We’re seeking an experienced Cloud Solution Architect (Contractor) to lead the design and delivery of Microsoft Azure solutions across our global operations, with a focus on EMEA and APAC. This role is critical to the success of our cloud transformation programme and requires a seasoned professional who can take full architectural ownership of Azure-based initiatives. You will translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud architectures, working closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment with enterprise strategy, regulatory obligations, and operational resilience standards. This is a delivery-focused role with accountability for architectural decisions, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Accountability
    • Own the end-to-end architecture of Azure solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and compliance requirements.
    • Define and enforce architectural standards, patterns, and governance frameworks.
    • Lead architecture reviews and provide expert guidance throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Solution Design & Delivery
    • Design and document Azure solutions that meet business, technical, and regulatory needs.
    • Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and cybersecurity teams to ensure successful implementation.
    • Ensure traceability of architectural decisions and maintain high-quality documentation.
  • Cloud Strategy Execution
    • Support the execution of the Azure cloud strategy and roadmap.
    • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement using Azure-native services.
  • Security & Compliance
    • Ensure solutions meet internal security policies and external regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, FCA).
    • Implement controls using Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud, and RBAC.
    • Provide architectural input into audit and risk management processes.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Monitor and optimise Azure environments for performance, reliability, and cost.
    • Drive automation and Infrastructure-as-Code adoption (ARM, Bicep, Terraform).
    • Lead initiatives to reduce technical debt and improve cloud maturity.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Act as the architectural point of contact for Azure-related initiatives.
    • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Influence decision-making and promote architectural best practices.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven experience in Azure cloud architecture within financial services or other regulated industries.
  • Strong understanding of Azure services including networking, identity, compute, storage, and security.
  • Demonstrated ownership of architectural decisions and solution delivery.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments and legacy integration.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform) and Azure DevOps.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., FCA, GDPR).
  • Experience working in a multi-region enterprise environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Location and Hours of Work

  • Location: London, UK (Hybrid working available)
  • Contract Type: Day-rate contract via approved vendor or umbrella
  • Duration: Initial 6 months, with potential for extension
  • Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 07:00 and 18:00
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Rate: Competitive, based on experience and market benchmarks
