Role Description

Reporting into the Managing Director of Allianz Personal Broker, the Commercial Director will lead the delivery of commercial outcomes required for our Allianz Personal Broker business plan, working in conjunction with other members of the Allianz Personal (AzP) Broker Leadership Team; to contribute and where appropriate lead the development of the strategy and plan for the AzP Broker business.

As a member of the AzP Broker Leadership Team you will ensure regulatory, AZUK Holdings and Allianz Group obligations and responsibilities are met through leading our people in a manner that enables their personal and collective success. In conjunction with the AzP Broker Managing Director and the AzP Distribution Director you will lead Allianz’s market distribution and trading presence, influencing industry dynamics and issues in a manner that benefits our customers and Allianz.

Key Accountabilities

  • Delivery of the AzP Broker P&L aligned to support and enable our whole business strategy at a UK and Global Distribution level and delivery of the plan through collaboration with other AzP Broker Leadership members, AzP and Allianz Group stakeholders and key external stakeholders.
  • Work with other members of the AzP Broker Leadership to develop insights, propositions and capabilities that improve the business performance in both profit and growth terms enabling Allianz Personal Broker to grow its market share and deliver its ROE requirements.
  • Lead and direct the delivery of a market leading presence through sophisticated and responsive underwriting, pricing and operational capability for AzP Broker, delivering the UK plans and activities that align to our strategies, plans and tactics and ensuring effective implementation.
  • Develop Allianz’s business to provide clients and brokers with effective and compliant customer service-led business models. Lead and co-ordinate the cross-functional teams required to ensure service delivery in alignment with the stated and defined strategy for each market.
  • Lead inputs into the quarterly reserving process with the AzP Broker Pricing and Underwriting Director and the AzP Finance partner, and track customer complaints.
  • Lead engagement with GSMD and other Group areas as required to input into Global Broker growth.
  • Provide the business with clear sight of new initiatives or opportunities to improve sophistication in the business and the impact on the AzP Broker P&L.
  • Attend and lead on AzP Broker input into the Smart Circle to ensure assumptions are relevant and appropriate for the broker business.
  • Demonstrate clear and compelling leadership, aligned to the Allianz values. Ensure employee engagement and motivation through setting clear objectives, effective communication and visibility.
  • Develop the talent available to the broader business through recruitment, training and development.
  • Adhere to the agreed expense budgets.
  • Ensure the standards of internal and regulatory governance are applied consistently and effectively.

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of the risk and regulatory environment.
  • Strong technical capability and account management skills in general insurance with ability to interpret into P&L management and tangible actions balancing multiple demands.
  • Distribution expertise, knowledge of the UK personal lines market space, business practices and relationship management.
  • Ensure successful implementation of Group policies and strategies within AzP Broker.
  • Set the business and UK distribution strategy, ethical standards and regulatory climate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to influence employees across hierarchies and multi-sites.
  • A Financial Conduct Authority Approved Person, able to comply with the Principles and accompanying Codes of Practice for Approved Persons.

Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of the general insurance marketplace; the distribution landscape and key personnel; current regulation; current and emerging trends.
  • Confident in developing strategies to drive appropriate improvement and adaptations in response to changing customer needs and business direction.
  • Strong capabilities in expanding and managing different types of traditional distribution channels.

Qualifications

  • Degree desirable or equivalent qualification with relevant post-qualification experience.
  • ACII or MBA is desirable but not compulsory.
  • Strong financial acumen, including Financial Tools for Account Managers.
