Salary between: £50,000 -£70,000 per annum based on knowledge and experience. London Weighting Allowance of £5319 also offered. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

THE ROLE
A commercial Rights & Business Affairs Manager will act as a principle point of advice and direction for the business and Legal Affairs team and represent BBC Studios boards when required. The role will require you manage, conduct and oversee a wide range of legal & Business Affairs activities throughout various stage of production and ensure these are in accordance to relevant policies and frameworks
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy development and implementation: To support the implementation of strategies and business frameworks across portfolios to secure competitive commercial deals and enable BBC Studios to grow in accordance with the business plan, including the development and maintenance of standard documentation and processes. To propose and deliver innovative and entrepreneurial solutions to complex business problems.
- Partnering: To confidently forge excellent relationships across legal teams and wider business
- Negotiation and contracting: To collaborate with the lead Business Legal Affairs representative on the negotiation of global commissioning deals. To ensure a co-ordinated approach to negotiation of deals with the ability to strategically advise on more challenging deals to support the best business outcome.
- Advising: To advise on all aspects of business affairs including day-to-day productions risks, legal and commercial risks, editorial policy and compliance issues across the portfolios with specific focus on a particular Unit during times of significant workload.
- Risk management: To assist in setting and ensure compliance with frameworks for global commissioning deals across portfolios and ensure consistency of approach.
- Representation: To represent Business & Legal Affairs at the most senior level with authority, credibility, tact and diplomacy. To be a recognisable and vocal ambassador and advocate of the strategy/growth plan and deal effectively at senior leadership level
KEY CRITERIA
- Legal qualifications
- Experience of negotiating content contracts and securing competitive terms with commissioners.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the legal and commercial issues associated with producing content for commissioners.
- Highly business-oriented operating with a commercial approach which enables a quick response to market changes.
- Adept at dealing with conflicts and helping devise solutions where trade-offs involved. Help others resolve issues dispassionately.
- Knowledge of, and experience in, television content production.
- Experience of innovating and leading change in a complex, competitive environment.
