PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Content encompasses all of the BBC's network TV and Radio output and brings world-class creativity to our screens through some of the BBC's biggest brands. The division brings together channels and commissioning with TV and Digital production to provide the best television and online content, wherever and whenever audiences want it. We ensure the widest possible audience can access distinctive, world-beating content across our services.

This is an exciting time to join the Children's and Education 7 to 12 Commissioning Team - with a focus on Newsround and Factual. We commission more Children's content than anyone else in the UK, and have a reputation worldwide for the quality and range of our award-winning unscripted content for kids.

In this role, you will be working with the Newsround team to deliver a first class news service for the BBC's youngest audience, as well as seeking out the very best factual stories that have real meaning for contemporary kids from a range of UK Indies, tiny start-ups to the most experienced.

You will be working across the Factual slate, which includes big titles and brands like Blue Peter, My Life, Stage Stars and Football Academy.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

Led by the Senior Head of Commissioning 7+, alongside fellow Commissioning Editors and Execs, you will be responsible for making sure that the quality and accuracy of Newsround is assured, as well as supporting both a diverse slate of developments and the delivery of commissions in line with Departmental strategy and knowledge of trends.

The role will involve a thorough understanding of managing existing brands as well as encouraging innovation, balancing your editorial nous with ensuring programmes are compliant, delivered on time and on budget and that productions demonstrate value for money, quality, originality and good working practise.

You will be influential in ensuring that Factual Entertainment content delivers to Departmental commitments both on screen and off screen, and across the UK.

You will be nimble and proactive in keeping up with emerging technology and rapidly changing audience behaviours, as they shift away from linear towards different kinds of content across multiple platforms.

You'll also inspire and engage BBC Studios and independent producers by articulating the 7 to 12 Factual editorial priorities, and work with them to create and develop ideas that will entice this audience to notice, come to and stay with BBC platforms and channels.

You will need to be able to collaborate effectively with the commissioning team and other BBC departments, as well as hold and be able to build strong relationships with external partners and talent.
