Communications and Media Officer
New Today
Overview
The Asian Women’s Resource Centre (AWRC) is a feminist organization whose values are founded on commitments to human rights, anti-discrimination and freedom from oppression. We endorse global evidence that violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence is gendered, a cause and consequence of the unequal position of women and girls in society, a violation of human rights, and is entirely preventable.
Position
Salary: £28,000 per annum (pro rata for part-time staff)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: Fixed term until March 2026 (with potential for extension)
Location: London office / Hybrid (2 days office-based)
We are seeking a dynamic and creative Communications and Media Officer to join our team in a new and exciting role funded by the Esme Fairbairn Foundation. Working in partnership with Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse (STADA), you will play a key role in raising AWRC’s profile, strengthening our brand, and engaging audiences across digital and traditional media.
What you’ll do
- Develop and deliver a communications strategy aligned with AWRC’s vision and objectives.
- Manage and grow our online presence, including website, newsletters, and social media platforms.
- Lead creative campaigns to engage supporters, influence policy makers, and attract funding.
- Build strong relationships with media contacts and respond to press enquiries.
- Create inspiring content that amplifies the voices and experiences of women we support.
- Support AWRC events, campaigns, and publications, including our Annual Report and key awareness days.
About you
- A strong communicator with excellent writing and digital skills.
- Experienced in managing websites, social media, and content creation.
- Able to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Organised, proactive, and able to juggle competing deadlines.
- Committed to equality, diversity, and AWRC’s feminist values.
- Understanding of issues affecting women experiencing domestic abuse (essential).
- Ability to speak a community language (desirable).
Why join us?
This is an opportunity to shape the voice of an organisation making real change in the lives of BME women and girls. You’ll join a passionate team working collaboratively to end gender-based violence.
Requirements
Important information:
This post is open to women only under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
We strongly encourage applications from women with disabilities, from BME backgrounds, from the LGBT+ community, and those with lived experience of the criminal justice system.
Closing date: Monday 29th September 2025 at 12 pm
Interview date: Week Commencing 6th October 2025
Please note that a task will be involved as part of the interview process and the interviews will take place face to face at our Harlesden office.
