Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. Diseases like cancer, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease affect the lives of many people in our communities. Our goal is to create a world-leading resource for health research, to improve our understanding and spot the patterns of how and why common diseases start, so treatments can begin sooner and be more effective.
The ambition of Our Future Health differs from other large UK population cohorts in terms of scale, and the aim to recruit much higher numbers of participants from groups who are not well represented in research i.e. ethnic minorities, younger people and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
We're hiring aCommunity Engagement Managerto collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the organisation to support the delivery of initiatives that help us to better recruit and engage people from communities and groups who are currently underrepresented in health research.
This work will be central to our community outreach efforts. You will be embedded in a cross-organisational project team who take a ‘test and learn’ approach to help us understand what works for different communities. This will help us drive innovation and develop a multi-layered approach to enhance our diversity efforts.
As our Community Engagement Manager - Diversity-led Innovation, you will be responsible for:
Project delivery and development:
Working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, support on the delivery and development of diversity initiatives to effectively reach, engage and support underrepresented groups. This could involve :
- Working with and involving underrepresented communities to co-create solutions
- Supporting pilot delivery and scale-up exploration and leading on diversity / community engagement areas
- Foster innovation by supporting efforts to explore new ideas and approaches to enhance our diversity initiatives
- Work with Science colleagues to put effective mechanisms in placeto capture learnings and insights from diversity initiatives where necessary
Project management and reporting
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Manage project teams and coordinate with internal and external partners.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders and senior management.
Advocacy and outreach
- Advocate for the needs and interests of underrepresented communities within the organisation.
- Represent the organisation at community events and forums.
- Document insights and learnings from your engagement with communities to help improve programme design.
- Researching and understanding the key communities we are trying to recruit and engage with
Team support
- Work collaboratively with the Community Engagement management team to continuously improve how the team works together and operates
- Experience working collaboratively to delivery diversity and / or community engagement initiatives
- Experienced in project delivery involving multiple stakeholders and ambitious goals
- Understand the importance of monitoring and evaluating initiatives, capturing learnings and insights, and working with colleagues to ensure a high standard
- Have experience and understanding of working with under-represented and diverse groups
- Have a dynamic, flexible approach, with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Be someone who works well in a busy, changing environment with tight deadlines and takes pride in the little touches that make for strong relationships and excellent events
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex messaging clearly and in a way that is meaningful for different groups of people.

You may work remotely from anywhere within the UK with quarterly travel to London for team days.
