Overview

Community Engagement Project Officer (Wandsworth) – London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Fixed Term until May 2027. Full Time. Salary £37,602-£45,564. Location: Wandsworth Town Hall. Objective of role: join a unique, creative, and passionate team to work with communities to deliver positive outcomes and ensure engagement in decision making for the area.

The role focuses on community engagement for projects funded under the NCIL, including consultations, co-design with local communities, and collaboration with Council departments, statutory agencies and the voluntary and community sector.

Responsibilities

  • Build meaningful relationships with residents, voluntary sector and community groups, and with wider partners across neighbourhoods.
  • Lead community engagement for NCIL-funded projects; may include consultations and co-design activities with local communities.
  • Work with other Council departments, statutory agencies and the voluntary and community sector to engage communities effectively.
  • Support and promote community engagement initiatives such as the Leaders Roadshow programme.
  • Engage in place-based working within a defined area and develop potential NCIL projects with communities.
  • Contribute to delivering the Council’s community engagement approach and be an active presence in local communities.

Essential Qualifications, Skills And Experience

Experience in community outreach, inspiring and mobilising communities to participate in outcomes-driven work. Ability to engage with charities, public sector partners, and a wide range of Council Services to reach seldom heard communities.

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Build trust and meaningful relationships with communities; be empathetic, able to initiate dialogue, and focused on outcomes.
  • Inspire and mobilise communities to contribute to local improvements; work with partners across services to engage seldom heard communities.
  • Coordinate regular public-facing, community-based events involving local Councillors, Council and partner services to understand local issues and gather ideas for neighbourhood improvement.
  • Demonstrate ability to engage diverse communities, develop effective relationships, and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Support co-design of NCIL-eligible projects and collaborate with the Community Funding Manager who evaluates and allocates NCIL funding.
  • Be an active representative of the Council’s community engagement approach within local communities.

Working Arrangements

Occasional evenings and weekend work may be required; time off in lieu provided. Role primarily community-based with flexibility to work from home, the Wandsworth office, or attend events and meetings.
