Overview
Please note: This role will require a flexible approach with start times from 7.00 AM and finish time of 16.45 PM and will include weekend shifts. We currently have 1 full time position available with a working pattern that must include at least one weekend day with alternative days to be agreed with the successful candidate.
Experience of Practical Skills is required. UK Manual Driving Licence - Category D1 Minibus is required. Evidence of commitment to teamwork, effective interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability, and knowledge of safety at work, public protection and risk of harm in all aspects of work are expected. A willingness to undertake further training to attain IOSH L3 or equivalent and to achieve and maintain L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent is required.
The post holder will work in an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. This may include driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment. The post holder will be responsible for all work site supervision tasks and will work with service users to ensure that all tasks are carried out to the best of their ability, including demonstrating good practice as necessary. A career in community payback aims to positively impact the lives of People on Probation and the community by supporting their journey and helping to improve the community (e.g., building benches or cleaning streets). The post holder will contribute towards the rehabilitative potential of the sentence and will support some service users to gain employment skills through positive work experience with opportunities to gain vocational or skills-based training. Staff are expected to contribute towards review and evaluation of all aspects of service delivery and to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Weekend work may be required as part of the normal pattern of work. The work may involve working alongside volunteers or staff from partner organisations.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
- Conduct Pre-Placement Unpaid Work Induction sessions.
- Conduct a start of the day "tool box" talk to ensure all service users understand the task and safe working practices, and motivate and support service users to complete their Order.
- Follow work directions within the project placement file.
- Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed; alert relevant staff to risks; ensure related paperwork is completed accurately and on time, including contributing to the review of placement risk assessments.
- Ensure appropriate tools, equipment and supplies are available in accordance with local procedure and that instructions for safe use are followed by service users.
- Conduct a dynamic risk assessment to note and manage hazards.
- Use pro-social and other motivational techniques to ensure service users complete the work assigned in a disciplined and well-behaved manner.
- Monitor attendance of service users allocated to agency placements and promote successful completions.
- Maintain all service users' records in accordance with organisational requirements; ensure information is updated on the case management system in a timely and accurate manner.
- Work towards accreditation as a workplace assessor or deliver training assessments for selected service users within the supervised work group to provide enhanced learning opportunities.
- Contribute towards promoting Community Payback with colleagues, external agencies, Sentencers and the public.

Qualifications & Requirements
- UK Manual Driving Licence - Category D1 Minibus
- Evidence of commitment to teamwork
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise people constructively while maintaining authority
- Evidence of problem-solving within a workplace or similar environment
- Knowledge of safety at work, public protection and risk of harm in all aspects of work
- Basic knowledge of First Aid and willingness to undertake further training
- To attain IOSH L3 or equivalent and a willingness to attend further training
- Willing to achieve and maintain L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent
- Ability to model pro-social attitudes and behaviour to service users
- Good written communication skills, including Communicating and Influencing

Working Arrangements & Benefits
Hybrid working arrangements may be available where business needs allow. The role is UK-based and not eligible for overseas placement. Normal full-time hours are 37 per week, excluding unpaid breaks. The MoJ welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing arrangements. Applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns will be considered in accordance with policy.

Salary and benefits details: starting salary £26,475 with potential annual pay progression via Competency Based Framework where eligible. Benefits include annual leave of 25 days rising to 30 days after five years, access to LGPS pension, training opportunities, and flexible benefits.
