Compliance Advice Manager – Senior Manager and Certification Regime (12-month fixed term contract)

It’s an exciting time to join us as we evolve to a new future as a larger group. Our recent acquisition of Virgin Money has accelerated our purpose: Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society, as it enables us to deliver the benefits of fairer banking and mutual ownership to more people in the UK.

As a Compliance Advice Manager, you’ll play a key part in our integration journey over the next 12-months. You’ll be using your Senior Manager and Certification Regime (SM&CR) expertise to provide pragmatic advice and help develop practical solutions for the dual regulated and solo-regulated entitities in the group. You’ll need to work as a team across the lines of defence, collaborating with a range of stakeholders to assess options, build understanding and help put in place the most appropriate SM&CR arrangements that we need as an enlarged group, also taking into account any regulatory change during the period.

This is a second-line role in the Compliance and Regulatory Affairs team which is part of the wider Risk function. We are at the forefront of complex regulatory change, providing specialist regulatory support, driving good outcomes and value for customers, stakeholders and the Society.

We provide advice and support on all things risk across the whole Society, making sure we remain compliant, operate efficiently, and act in the best interests of our members. We protect our customers by delivering in a safe, sustainable way and working together to achieve good outcomes .

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 21 and 35

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll be located at our nearest regional hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our office sites. This is anticipated to be in Swindon, once per quarter. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

What you’ll be doing

A key aspect of the role will involve giving complex, critical and time-sensitive advice and support on all SM&CR and governance requirements in relation to the Virgin Money integration with Nationwide Building Society, in addition to other ‘business as usual’ activity. This will include considering the implications for Group and Entity Senior Manager roles and accountabilities, including regulatory expectations for governance, as well as the interim integration arrangements for Nationwide and Virgin Money. In addition you’ll help the business work through options for its combined Fitness and Propriety arrangements and other SM&CR aspects.

You’ll be providing regulatory input to establish clear governance structures and accountabilities across the group, covering Senior Management Functions, allocation of Prescribed Responsibilities, Business Activities and Management Responsibilities Maps. You’ll work through the implications for committee structures, organisational structure and risk management arrangements.

You’ll also be helping senior managers and the teams that support them consider how they demonstrate reasonable steps and deliver training to facilitate this.

About you

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
