Compliance Officer – Risk & Compliance Team, Version 1 – Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, United Kingdom

We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Compliance Officer to help shape and mature the compliance function. This is a strategic role to work with the Head of Risk & Compliance and the DPO to build a robust compliance framework that supports business objectives, regulatory obligations, and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and controls across the organisation.
  • Support the DPO in fulfilling data protection obligations, including DPIAs, breach response, privacy training, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on business operations.
  • Lead internal compliance reviews and support external audits.
  • Collaborate with business units to embed compliance into operational processes.
  • Contribute to the development of compliance training and awareness programmes.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of compliance registers and reporting dashboards.
  • Assist business units in the development of mitigation plans to address identified compliance risks.
  • Ability to assist on the risk responsibilities of the team as required.
  • Coordinate and undertake continuous improvement activities and promote best practice across the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in compliance, legal, or regulatory roles is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong understanding or interest in GDPR and data privacy principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently and influence across teams.
  • Professional certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Internal candidates with strong organisational knowledge and a passion for governance are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with ISO, SOC, NIST is beneficial but not required.
  • Understanding of AI is beneficial but not essential.
