Consultant - Data Science
1 Days Old
Your part in our mission
The power of Data Science and AI is only as good as the problems it solves. Your purpose is to help build and scale Squarcle’s Data Science capability. You’ll help shape cutting-edge internal products within our AI Labs, and you’ll be delivering high-impact AI solutions for clients across complex industries like defence, construction, and nuclear.
Our structure
At Squarcle, we work in a matrix structure designed to support your growth and success. You’ll have a Performance Manager to guide your career development, an Engagement Manager to support your day-to-day project work, and a Capability Lead to ensure best practice across tools, people, and processes. This role sits within our Digital Capability, where you’ll work closely with Jade O’Leary, our Senior Manager - Data Science, and report into one of our Engagement Directors. Your Performance Manager and project assignment will be confirmed once your first engagement is agreed.
This is what you’ll be doing
As a Data Science Consultant within our Digital capability you’ll be joining us as we build momentum. This means there’s room for people to shape how we grow, not just keep up with it. Some of your key day to day activities will include:
- While on engagement you will work closely with customers to understand their challenges and translate these into clear, actionable tasks
- You’ll
design and deliver data science solutions, regularly reporting back to the customer to make sure it meets their requirements and algins to their expectations - Work collaboratively with other data experts and domain specialists to share knowledge, develop best practices, and align technology with business objectives
- Often, you’ll be developing and/or deploying solutions in customer infrastructure which may have strict security controls
- When not on engagement, you’ll
contribute to internal innovation efforts including helping us build our AI Labs capability and support business development through technical input to assist us in winning new engagements
We’ll continue develop and measure your success in the following areas
Each engagement will have a set of deliverables which you will be responsible for. We’ll measure your success in the following areas:
- Engagement Manager, client and peer feedback
- Ability to work through complex problems with a positive solution focused mindset
- Working with your Performance Manager to create and set measurable goals
Where you’ll be stretched (and thrive)
- Challenging AI proposals: you’ll be working through some complex AI workflows and deploying them into classified systems
- You'll often be the dedicated Data Scientist on a project: you’ll have the autonomy and ownership to lead the data science agenda alongside a supportive Squarcle team
- Consulting isn’t always smooth sailing: Client needs evolve, projects pivot, and ambiguity is part of the job. You’ll need to be adaptable, calm under pressure, and comfortable navigating change
We think you’ll love
- Shape the future: you’ll have the opportunity to leave your mark by building and scaling Squarcle’s Data Science capability. Help us define what great looks like for years to come
- Room to innovate: with a dedicated AI budget and full backing for our internal AI Labs, you’ll have the space, time, and resources to push boundaries and experiment with new ideas
- Best of both worlds: this hybrid role gives you the variety of client-facing work with the deeper satisfaction of shaping in-house AI products that we own, evolve, and stand behind.
This isn’t just another consulting role. It’s a chance to be part of something growing, ambitious, and meaningful.
The skills you’ll need to succeed in this role
- Advanced Python skills: essential for day-to-day development across our projects
- Hands-on machine learning experience: including techniques such as classification, clustering, and deep learning
- Cloud development experience: ideally with Azure, but AWS or GCP also valuable
- Strong version control practices: confident using Git, with experience in collaborative workflows like pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/GitHub)
- Data storytelling and visualisation: ability to translate data into insight using tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, or dashboarding platforms like Power BI or Tableau
How we’ll assess your skills
Our interview process for this role will involve three steps:
Step 1: Meet with our Recruitment Manager, Corina. She’ll introduce you to Squarcle, the role, and answer any questions you may have about us. We’ll be assessing some basic skills for the role and finding out more about your background.
Step 2: Meet with our Senior Manager – Data Science, Jade. She’ll deep dive into the role and your capabilities.
Step 3: Meet with our Capability and Innovation MD, John and Senior Advisor for AI, Rob. They’ll home in on your consultancy skills and values alignment.

We believe great work deserves great rewards. Here’s what you can expect as part of the team:
- Generous leave package
- 26 days of annual leave (including your birthday!) plus UK bank holidays — increasing to 27 days after three years, and 28 after seven years
