Opportunity:
A growing ecology consultancy is seeking a Consultant Ecologist to strengthen their Birmingham team. This role offers the chance to work on a diverse range of projects across regeneration, property, transport, and public sectors. While primarily based in the Birmingham region, the role may involve collaboration, travel, and inter-office work with other regional teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ecologist looking to progress their career within a supportive and professional team, delivering high-quality ecological services to a portfolio of major clients.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake ecological surveys and desk-based studies to a high standard.
- Prepare technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, and BREEAM 2018 assessments.
- Contribute to Environmental Statement (ES) chapters and support the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process where required.
- Provide pragmatic, commercially aware ecological advice to clients.
- Conduct technical review of reports prepared by others.
- Work autonomously while collaborating effectively with colleagues across regional teams.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals for ecological work.
- Ensure compliance with conservation legislation and protected species licensing, including maintaining relevant survey/handling licences.
Requirements:
- Degree qualified in ecology or a related discipline.
- More than one year's experience in ecological consultancy or a closely related sector.
- Strong knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning policy.
- Experience in linear infrastructure and property development projects desirable.
- Excellent technical report writing skills.
- Understanding of the EIA process and contribution to ES chapters advantageous.
- Ability to work independently with strong communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence or the ability to travel to sites using public transport.
