Consultant Psychiatrist OA Memory Clinic
The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join our established multidisciplinary team at the Memory Clinic in Coltman Street, Hull.
The service provides memory assessments for the local population of Hull and East Yorkshire, commissioned by the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership. This role involves assessment and diagnostic services only. Nurse prescribers also prescribe cognitive enhancers alongside the Consultant Psychiatrist.
The team works collaboratively, comprising nursing staff, occupational therapists, and neuropsychologists.
While based in Hull, flexible and remote working arrangements can be negotiated.
Main duties of the job
This role is vital in delivering multidisciplinary memory services to older adults across Hull and the East Riding. Based at Coltman Street, the post holder will diagnose complex cases, formulate treatment plans, prescribe cognitive enhancers, review CT scan results, and liaise with GPs regarding physical health issues. The Consultant will collaborate with nursing and neuropsychology services to provide assessment services.
The post requires holding and maintaining S12 (2) and Responsible and Approved Clinician status for on-call commitments, which are scheduled at 1 in 7.5 on a rota covering Old People and Learning Disability services.

Job responsibilities
The post holder should be approved as a Responsible Clinician or willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA approval and will need to renew this status as per procedures.
Ability to commute within the trust's geographical area with access to suitable transportation is essential. Please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification for more details.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
- Additional clinical qualifications or endorsements
Eligibility
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility
- Approved clinician status or the ability to achieve it within three months of appointment (the trust will facilitate this transition)
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Decision-making based on evidence and experience, including team contributions
- Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Relevant specialist/sub-specialist NHS or comparable experience
Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning
- Ability to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
- Leadership skills to work effectively within and lead teams
- Commitment to shared leadership and collaborative improvement
- Participation in continuous professional development (CPD)
