Senior Associate - Contentious Construction (5-8+ PQE)

Location: Exeter

A leading UK law firm is seeking to appoint a senior contentious construction lawyer to join its well-established Construction & Infrastructure team in Exeter.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Senior Associate (ideally 5-8+ years PQE) to step into a high-performing, supportive team with a strong client base across the energy, infrastructure, utilities, and development sectors. The work is varied, strategic, and often high-profile - covering everything from payment disputes and defects to complex delay claims, professional negligence, and contract interpretation.

Clients include national developers, contractors, funders, local authorities, and large corporate groups, many of which are household names. The team acts across adjudication, arbitration, expert determination and litigation, with involvement in reported cases and a strong reputation for strategic disputes work in the construction sector.

The role will suit someone with a solid track record in running contentious construction matters day-to-day, including adjudications and court proceedings. Experience with JCT and NEC contracts is essential, and candidates should be confident advising clients on contract strategy and risk throughout the life of a project.

The successful candidate will work directly with clients from day one, with the expectation of managing complex work independently and contributing to wider team growth. They'll also work closely with colleagues across real estate, planning, commercial and corporate to deliver joined-up, sector-focused support.

This is a firm known for promoting from within. Lawyers are supported with clear development frameworks, a dedicated knowledge team, and genuine investment in their future progression - whether that's towards partnership, sector specialism or broader leadership.

Flexible and hybrid working are fully supported. While Exeter will be the base, the team works with clients across the UK and offers a modern, agile approach to delivery.

The role comes with a strong benefits package including competitive salary, bonus, private healthcare, enhanced parental leave, sabbaticals, and wellbeing support. There is also scope to get involved in wider firm initiatives - from ESG and community engagement to diversity, inclusion and pro bono work.

All enquiries will be handled in confidence. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply with a CV and brief cover note outlining their experience and interest in the role.
