Overview
Accounts Portfolio Manager - Exeter. This is a senior position ideal for someone who is technically strong and passionate about client service. You will lead on delivering accounting and advisory services and manage a broad portfolio of clients.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio primarily consisting of SMEs, partnerships, and sole traders, acting as the main point of contact for clients and ensuring their needs are met. Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships founded on trust and excellent service.
- Financial Reporting And Compliance - Prepare and review financial statements, annual accounts, tax returns, and periodic management reports. Ensure accuracy, compliance with relevant accounting standards and UK tax regulations, and meet reporting deadlines.
- Strategic Advisory - Provide strategic financial insights to help clients grow their businesses and improve financial performance. Advise on tax planning, cash flow management, and business planning opportunities tailored to each client.
- Client Relationship Management - Serve as the trusted adviser, handle day-to-day queries, conduct client meetings, present findings, and ensure high client satisfaction.
- Team Leadership And Mentoring - Supervise and mentor junior accountants and trainees, review work, provide guidance and training, and foster professional development to maintain a high-performing team.
- Quality Control And Compliance - Ensure work quality and compliance with UK GAAP / IFRS and current tax legislation; stay updated with changes and adapt services accordingly.
- Continuous Improvement - Collaborate with directors and senior management to identify opportunities to improve internal processes and client service. Autonomy to manage your portfolio while contributing to firm-wide initiatives.
Qualifications
- ACA or ACCA Qualified with full membership status (or equivalent).
- Practice and managerial experience in accountancy, with a track record of managing a diverse portfolio and supervising staff (Accounts Manager or Client Manager level preferred).
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards (UK GAAP and / or IFRS) and tax compliance; able to stay current with regulatory changes.
- Proficiency in accounting software including Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage; familiarity with other cloud accounting and tax software is a plus.
- Leadership and mentoring abilities with experience in delegating and giving constructive feedback.
- Client-focused communication and interpersonal skills; ability to explain complex financial information clearly and build trusted adviser relationships.
- Analytical, organised, and proactive in managing deadlines and portfolio priorities.
- Commercial awareness and ability to spot opportunities to add value for clients and improve services.
