This role will be responsible for managing multiple contracts within the Public Safety & Justice Sector at BT Group. PS&J is a vertical within the Public Sector unit that covers a varied contracts, with customers including the Home Office, Ministry of Justice, as well as local Police forces and Fire services. This role will manage the finances across a number of those contracts making sure accurate P&Ls and balance sheets are maintained and the relevant accounting standards are adhered to. The role has a broad stakeholder base which requires concise and timely interaction to drive maximum value for BT Group and the customer. Insightful forecasting and reporting is crucial to support profitable growth of high value Government customers. This role can be based in Bristol, London, Birmingham or Manchester. Working three days a week in office and two days a week from home.

What you’ll be doing

Contract Accounting Finance Specialist for PS&J contracts – driving profitable change for the short, medium and long term.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure financial control of the contract
  • Contract is suitably accounted through the contract accountant
  • Provide support and insight on customer profitability, ROI / Offers / Discounts
  • Provide P&L and BS control, bad debt / CF billing
  • Influence Strategic direction and support execution
  • Drive Cost Transformation agenda following through to P&L
  • Lead interface for 3rd party costs/ RA where it is customer specific
  • Debt collection and resolve customer specific billing issues (value channel specifically)
  • Provide financial planning and analysis to the business
  • Manage financial risk as a result of the utilisation of a number of billing platforms and ledgers e.g. GS product, B&PS Product and managed contracts which would be one of the most complex ledger and billing structures in the group
  • Own any judgement calls made on a contract in terms of recognition of cost or revenue in line with the appropriate accounting standards
  • Deal with complex commercial situations day in day out to either protect BTs contractual financial position or improve BTs financial position
  • Financial Analysis: Oversee and reviews the financial and operational analysis for the business. Develops complex business cases that may impact numerous parts of the business.
  • Provides in-depth commentary that reflects understanding of wider operating environment
  • Forecasting, Planning and Budgeting: Oversees and reviews forecast/budget at detailed level, demonstrating an understanding of their inter-relationship.
  • Provide and insight to the business on its financial performance.
  • Anticipate BT's risk across the business and plans for appropriate insurance

Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Significant senior stakeholder and business partnering experience – working within highly matrixed environments
  • Understand the way to evaluate and negotiate the commercial aspects of contracts
  • Ability to interpret financials into meaningful insight, to inform decision making
  • Be willing to voice an opinion and look at the "art of the possible". Must be able to create a clear vision, delivering against key metrics
  • Demonstrates an extremely high level of analytical capability
  • Leverages knowledge from multiple functional areas and anticipates impact of future requirements
  • Understands and consistently applies an advanced knowledge and understanding of company financial statements and accounting principles
  • Oversees and reviews the forecast/budget at detailed level, demonstrating an understanding of their inter-relationship
  • Provides detailed feedback and insight to the business on its financial performance
