Role Summary:
We’re an independent company* and arms-length governmental body, set up and owned by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). We administer the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, which aims to encourage investment in low carbon electricity generation. In 2024, projects managed under CfD’s generated enough energy to power 15.2 million homes and mitigated 2,818,008 tons of CO2 emissions.
Help accelerate the UK’s net zero ambitions.
As a Contract Manager at the Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC), you will be actively managing the contracts that enable investment in low-carbon energy.
As we enter a period of exciting growth, the role will evolve. It is currently quite operational, and will expand to offer opportunities in project management and advisory work.
Electricity CfD Team:
Within the Electricity CfD Team, our main aim is to facilitate renewable energy projects through relationship management of Developers and/or Generators whilst supporting and managing them through the milestones within the Contracts for Difference (CfD) all whilst working with them and other stakeholders to solve legal, technical and contractual problems to ultimately enable projects to succeed. With over 360 contracts in our current portfolio and the Government’s Carbon Power Action Plan for 2030 (CP30) this is set to increase significantly; there’s never been a greater time to get involved and help drive the UK to achieving Net Zero. The projects in our portfolio cover a wider range of technologies including:
- Wind: Remote Island, Onshore, Offshore, Floating Offshore
- Biomass
- Energy from Waste
- Tidal; and
- Advanced Conversion Technologies and Geothermal
Key Responsibilities
Relationship management
- Doing whatever it takes to help counterparties succeed. The role isn’t about policing or simply checking contracts, but about creating positive relationships that help counterparties meet contractual requirements.
- Building trust; identifying, understanding and resolving issues in a timely way; understanding counterparties’ challenges and positions; having conversations that make a positive impact.
- Communicating clearly and confidently. Developing, articulating, and standing by LCCC positions.
- Quickly building and developing excellent working relationships with LCCC colleagues. This is a rapidly growing organisation; you’ll need to advocate for your projects internally and support their prioritisation whilst also supporting Assistant Contract Managers and Graduates in their development.
Communication
- Advocating for our counterparties, using our unique position as a government owned, arm’s-length body.
- Analysing, testing and progressing information from government and counterparties.
- Collaborating with and supporting stakeholders to meet all contractual requirements.
- Presenting high-quality, reliable data using the appropriate templates.
- Using our expertise as the only people in the UK managing these types of contracts to influence stakeholders.
Identifying and reacting to trends
- Understanding how the projects in your team influence the wider portfolio of projects. You will know how to feed that information to stakeholders, providing early warnings when appropriate.
- Gathering in-depth, trustworthy information about trends, and the impact that changes in policy, process and procedure can have on different stakeholders.
- Understanding how a change in technical, financial or legal perspective can influence a project.
- Doing whatever you can to help get Projects and Contracts over the line.
- Understanding the Contracts for Difference mechanism, processes and systems, and raising any potential issues in advance.
- Managing and communicating information in a timely and accurate way, prioritising multiple Projects and raising potential issues before they become problematic.
- Pro-actively sharing ideas for improvements to processes and procedures.
About You
You are already a Contract Manager or Assistant Contract Manager.
If you have a STEM related degree we’re looking for at least three years’ relevant experience in the operational delivery of construction or energy contracts, or five years’ experience without a STEM degree.
You have a technical or energy background, or exposure to infrastructure projects before investment decision or during the construction process.
Employee Benefits
As if contributing to and supporting work that makes life better for millions wasn’t rewarding enough, we offer a full range of benefits too. Key benefits that may be available depending on the role include:
- Annual performance based bonus, up to 10%
- 25 days annual leave, plus eight bank holidays
- Up to 8% pension contribution
- Financial support and time off for study relevant to your role, plus a professional membership subscription
