About Us
The Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) is a UKCRC registered and NCRI Clinical Trials Unit group member: https://www.ctc.ucl.ac.uk/ It is one of the largest cancer trials centres in the UK, with more than 115 members of staff managing >80 research studies.
The CTC conducts clinical studies in oncology, both nationally and internationally, with a cross-disciplinary approach to evaluate anti-cancer treatments, and investigate methods of diagnosis and early detection.
The majority of CTC trials involve investigational medicinal products and therefore fall within the scope of the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations. The CTC also conducts trials of methods of screening for cancers and trials of non-drug therapies, such as radiotherapy. All trials are also governed by other UK regulations, including the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.
UCL acts as the regulatory sponsor for the majority of trials managed by the CTC, but delegates many sponsorship duties to the CTC through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Trial conduct requires a variety of contracts to be in place, in particular to ensure all roles and responsibilities are clear and documented. Under the MoU the CTC is required to ensure appropriate signed agreements are in place, based on agreed templates (where applicable), and to act in accordance with the agreements. The purpose of this post is to provide contracts support to CTC staff, and to help ensure all relevant contracts are in place for each trial, and CTC activity.
About The Role
The post holder will be a member of the Regulatory team, but will work closely with all CTC staff. The post holder will take the lead in ensuring: all relevant contracts are in place in a timely manner for work conducted at the CTC, and that such agreements are compliant with relevant Regulatory requirements (including, as applicable, Clinical Trial Regulations, Data Protection requirements, Human Tissue Act etc) (supported by the Scientific Operations Manager).
The post also involves liaison with a wide range of academic, legal, managerial and administrative staff in other departments within UCL, and the post holder will act as a CTC contact for UCL legal advisors. Contact with collaborating pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, third party providers and trial sites will be required. Contact with regulatory bodies, including MHRA and HRA, is encouraged when seeking advice and clarification.
The post holder will be expected to work onsite for a minimum of 60% of their time (3 days per week for full time staff), in line with UCL hybrid working guidelines.
This full-time, open-ended post is funded for one year in the first instance.
Appointments will usually be made at the beginning of the scale.
About You
The post holder will have a law degree (preferable) and/or significant experience in an equivalent relevant role as well as knowledge and understanding of key research contract clauses (e.g. intellectual property, confidentiality, liability, indemnity etc).
The post holder will have a knowledge and understanding of the key types of contract required in research (preferably clinical trials in the Higher Education sector), and experience of drafting, reviewing, negotiating and concluding research contracts or clinical trial contracts, within the Higher Education sector or pharmaceutical industry. The post holde should also have experience in clinical trials (preferably in a clinical trials unit) and/or health related research.
Knowledge of cancer and cancer therapies, for example advanced therapy medicinal products and regulations would be advantageous.
