About us: There has never been a more exciting time to join the Fuel & Inerting Systems team at Airbus. We are committed to continually improving and supporting our current aircraft, while also making game-changing headway with our revolutionary new fleet, such as the A321XLR and A350ULR. We are also breaking boundaries with our exciting ZEROe Hydrogen-fuelled aircraft plans and paving the way for 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel use to reduce our environmental footprint.

What you will be doing

From the moment you join, you will be an integral part of the Control & Indication department within the Fuel & Inerting Domain. Our teams are responsible for the design of the complete fuel gauging and control system across every commercial Airbus aircraft, at all stages of the development lifecycle. You can expect to contribute to meaningful work across our entire fleet, from R&T projects like ZEROe to supporting the flight test campaigns of the A350-1000ULR.

The work you complete with us will not be limited to traditional kerosene-based fuel systems; it will also involve new and novel technologies and the impact that fuels such as Hydrogen and Sustainable Aviation Fuel will have on these systems. You will operate in a challenging environment and be given a real and valued role within the team. Our areas of expertise include:

  • Computer-based engineering (software, modelling)
  • Design of control systems and their associated interfaces
  • Hydrogen Fuel Gauging and Control System development
  • Mechatronics & Electronics

Requirements

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application. Your application should include a CV along with a Cover Letter outlining your motivation and suitability for the role.

Candidate profile

We are looking for Interns who are studying (but is not limited to) one of the following areas of expertise/degrees:

  • Aerospace and/or Aeronautical Engineering
  • Computer Engineering and/or Science
  • Computer Modelling
  • Electronic and/or Electrical Engineering
  • Systems Engineering
  • Mechanical and/or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Software Engineering

Successful candidates will also be: naturally excited to work in the aviation industry, to explore engineering principles and create solutions based on technical intuition and evidence; curious to learn new skills and look at things in different ways; able to act with integrity and to speak up when necessary; a team player with the ability to work with others in an open, collaborative style; proficient in oral and written communication; understand and appreciate the future of aviation, specifically the impact new fuels and technologies can have on Fuel & Inerting System design.

Security clearance

You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
