About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager with specialist real estate expertise to lead their property tax practice in London. The successful candidate will be CTA qualified with proven leadership experience and a track record of managing high-value, complex real estate tax matters for premium clients.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a large portfolio of high-net-worth real estate clients
- Oversee complex corporate restructuring and tax planning for multi-billion pound property transactions
- Provide senior-level strategic tax advice on major acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, and international property investments
- Lead on sophisticated VAT planning including option to tax strategies, partial exemption optimization, and complex land and buildings structures
- Manage high-value SDLT planning and ATED compliance for ultra-high-net-worth clients
- Handle senior HMRC relationships including complex enquiries, negotiations, and advance clearance applications
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams on major client engagements and cross-border transactions
- Manage, develop, and mentor a team of managers and senior associates
- Drive technical excellence and thought leadership within the real estate tax practice
- Lead business development initiatives and maintain senior client relationships
- Represent the firm at industry events and contribute to technical publications
Essential Requirements
- CTA qualification (Chartered Tax Adviser) with current membership
- Minimum 8-10 years' experience in corporate tax with extensive real estate specialization
- Deep expertise in UK corporation tax, VAT, SDLT, ATED, and international real estate taxation
- Proven experience with complex property investment structures, REITs, property funds, and offshore vehicles
- Demonstrated leadership and people management experience with teams of 5+ professionals
- Exceptional client management skills with experience handling senior stakeholder relationships
- Strong business development track record and commercial acumen
- ACA/ACCA qualification highly advantageous
- Proficiency in advanced tax software and data analytics tools
Desirable Experience
- Big Four or leading mid-tier practice background
- Extensive knowledge of cross-border real estate tax structuring
- Experience with alternative investment funds and private equity real estate
- Understanding of tax technology and process automation
- Professional qualifications in related areas (RICS, CFA)
- Previous P&L responsibility or partnership track experience
