Cost Engineer - Energy

Due to increased opportunities and demand in the Energy & Natural Resources division, the South West team is recruiting for Cost Engineers to join a diverse and supportive team during a period of significant growth. Our nuclear client is at the forefront of industry-leading change, and we are keen to speak to like-minded individuals with senior cost engineering experience to see what Turner & Townsend can offer you. Candidates will be required to be present in our client office in Bridgewater for 3 days per week.
A Cost Engineer will be responsible for work packages and projects of varying size and complexity. Work packages may vary in size, with Cost Engineers accountable for controlling costs on multiple smaller projects or one significantly larger project. A Senior Cost Engineer will lead cost control for multiple projects or highly complex projects within the programme, managing relationships between time, cost, risk, change, reporting, and scope, and maintaining robust cost controls and reports to support management decisions. They will ensure project delivery within time, cost, and quality standards.
As a Cost Engineer, your responsibilities may include:
- Tailoring Cost Control approaches to meet client needs and aligning with best practices.
- Implementing and maintaining cost control systems to track budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts.
- Establishing a Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) with the project team and supporting change control processes.
- Developing project Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) and aligning budgets with Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) for accurate cost tracking.
- Mapping and integrating cost estimates with WBS and setting project budgets accordingly.
- Adhering to NEC or FIDIC contract processes for cost management and reporting.
- Leading accruals production to reflect the Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP) timely and accurately.
- Supporting change processes with cost information and updating forecasts.
- Ensuring proper cost capture and structure of work orders, requisitions, and purchase orders.
- Validating supply chain data for accurate forecasting and variance analysis.
- Interacting with management and leadership on cost control updates.
- Guiding and influencing project teams on cost control processes.
- Demonstrating leadership in developing the technical ability of the cost control team.
Additional requirements include adherence to SOX controls where applicable, senior professional project controls experience, knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM), progress reporting, forecasting, and strong communication and leadership skills. Familiarity with project controls interaction, stakeholder management, and a desire to work within the nuclear sector are also desirable.
