Overview
Counter Fraud Consultant/Senior Consultant role at RSM UK. Our established Fraud Risk Services team provides counter fraud services to public and private sector clients, including NHS bodies that report to the NHS Counter Fraud Authority. The role involves identifying gaps in fraud controls, advising on remediation, and training client staff to recognise and prevent fraud.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking Fraud and Bribery Risk Assessments – work with senior managers to understand controls, test effectiveness, highlight gaps, and score residual risk.
- Policy reviews – review client policies to identify fraud/bribery risks and ensure appropriate controls are in place.
- Liaison with senior staff – report to Director of Finance or CFO; produce and present workplans, progress reports, and annual reports to Audit Committee.
- Delivering training – design and present training sessions for clients’ staff or boards on fraud risk and related topics.
- Undertaking proactive exercises – deep-dive into identified fraud risks, test controls, and strengthen procedures.
- Receiving and handling fraud referrals – work with HR and other stakeholders to ensure clear reporting lines and proper investigation scope.
- Managing investigations – receiving referrals, estimating loss/gain, defining key lines of enquiry, and proportionate investigation approaches.
- Data handling – submit information requests under Data Protection Act and gather evidence.
- Witness liaison and interviews – gather statements and conduct interviews under caution when required.
- Case preparation – prepare case papers for the CPS and advise on proportionate actions.
- Prevention recommendations – advise on measures to prevent recurrence and work with NHSCFA investigators as needed.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Ability to pass enhanced security vetting (NPPV + SC) and DBS clearance.
- Excellent verbal communication to convey complex, sensitive information to staff, clients, and stakeholders.
- Strong written communication for high-quality reports for varied audiences.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality client service.
- Ability to work unsupervised, use initiative, and exceed client expectations.
