We're supporting British Transport Police (BTP) in recruiting Crime and Incident Auditors to deliver a targeted audit programme aimed at improving crime recording standards, particularly in relation to antisocial behaviour.

This role is key to ensuring compliance with national standards, improving data quality, and enhancing outcomes for victims. You'll be reviewing incident reports to determine:

  • Whether a crime should have been recorded.
  • Whether it was recorded correctly.
  • Whether it was classified appropriately.

You'll play a critical role in strengthening public confidence and driving improvements across the force.

What You'll Do

  • Audit crime and incident reports in line with the Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR), National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS), Scottish Crime Recording Standard (SCRS) and NSIR.
  • Review approx. 30 incidents per day, with a team-wide goal of up to 1,000 per month.
  • Produce clear, high-quality audit reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Identify under-recorded crimes and data quality issues, escalating risks where needed.
  • Provide guidance and advice to divisions on recording practices.
  • Support continuous improvement and maintain a victim-focused approach to crime recording.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • At least 2 years' experience in crime recording or incident auditing.
  • Strong working knowledge of NCRS, HOCR, and (ideally) SCRS.
  • Hands-on experience with Niche RMS (essential).
  • Familiarity with ControlWorks and incident reporting pathways (e.g. 61016, Single Online Home).
  • Ability to apply standards consistently and make informed decisions on complex cases.
  • Resilience to review sensitive or distressing content.

Desirable:

  • Background in Occurrence Management Units or Crime Management Units.
  • Experience across both England/Wales and Scotland.
  • PNC trained.
  • Previous experience with police forces using Niche RMS.

Why Join?

  • Flexible working: remote or office-based.
  • Offices available nationwide (London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Truro, etc.).
  • Equipment and full support provided for remote workers.
  • Work with a committed team improving standards and victim outcomes.
