Overview

Join the Guardian as a Cyber Security Engineer within the Group Technology & Data team. You will establish and drive the security engineering strategy and capability within the Information Security (InfoSec) team, ensuring adequate security across the Guardian News & Media estate. You will report to the InfoSec Engineering Lead, identify security gaps and root causes, work with stakeholders to remediate issues, document processes, and maintain a secure IT infrastructure. This role requires translating complex security concepts into clear context for stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Guardian News & Media’s security infrastructure, software, and hardware; document security processes and procedures and develop the organization’s knowledge base.
  • Define and integrate information security requirements into systems and processes; identify and implement security controls and test their effectiveness.
  • Monitor systems for irregular behavior and develop incident response measures to protect the environment.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify security gaps, develop risk management plans, and collaborate with GRC to treat risks.
  • Report findings, make recommendations, and translate complex technical issues for stakeholders.
  • Increase visibility and understanding of security context across all business areas.

About You

  • Demonstrable experience in cyber security engineering with a track record of defining best practices and execution, including information security risk management.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to collaborate with colleagues across the business (infrastructure; development; editorial).
  • Able to translate complex and technical security concepts into easily understandable context.
  • Excellent presentation and reporting skills.
  • High initiative with proactive problem-solving abilities.

Work Environment

Hybrid work arrangement: 3 days a week in the Kings Cross office and 2 days remotely.
