Join Dogs Trust as our Cyber Security Engineer and play a key role in safeguarding and supporting the technology that keeps the UK’s largest dog welfare charity running. This hands‑on role spans everything from strengthening our cyber security defences to ensuring our wider IT systems are compliant; enabling us to make an even greater difference to dogs and the people who love them. About the role: As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will:
Respond to and manage security incidents escalated from the SOC, reported to Cyber Security, or raised via the IT Service Desk. Monitor, maintain and optimise Dogs Trust security tools, including Microsoft Defender, Sentinel and Nessus. Support organisation‑wide security awareness through clear communication, training and guidance. Assess the security and policy compliance of a wide range of systems, including on‑premises Windows and Linux servers, network infrastructure, cloud platforms such as Office 365 and Salesforce, and public‑facing websites and applications. Research, recommend and drive the implementation of security controls, while contributing to risk management activities by identifying risks and tracking mitigation actions.
About you: We’re looking for someone with solid IT security experience, ideally supported by a qualification such as CompTIA Security+, and a background in a Security Engineer–type role. You’ll have strong communication and analytical skills, along with broad technical knowledge across Microsoft systems, networks, identity management, scripting and encryption. A computer science degree and experience in incident response are desirable.
