Data & GIS Analyst – NWG (Northumbrian Water Group). Permanent, full-time role based at Leat House, Washington. Salary from £39,200 to £49,000. Flexible working arrangements (including part-time) will be considered.

About The Role

We have an opportunity to join our Wastewater Directorate as a Data & GIS Analyst, supporting the development of our long-term Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP). This role is about turning data into insight, leading the development and management of spatial datasets and digital tools to understand drainage system performance, future risk, and resilience planning. You will work with data from environmental and infrastructure sources, growth forecasts and flood risk information, and present outputs that support decision-making across the business and with external partners. Responsibilities include building interactive maps, developing automated data pipelines, and presenting spatial evidence at workshops to influence climate adaptation, environmental protection, and community resilience.

  • Turn diverse data into clear, visual outputs to support decision-making.
  • Build interactive maps and automated data pipelines.
  • Present spatial evidence at workshops and engage with internal and external stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for someone passionate about using data and spatial analysis to solve real-world challenges. You should have strong experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, or QGIS, and be comfortable managing complex datasets from multiple sources. You will understand how to build, maintain and share spatial data and how to use mapping and analysis to support strategic planning both within the company and with external partners.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience developing visual tools like dashboards, StoryMaps, or interactive maps
  • Familiarity with tools like FME, Python, or SQL for data transformation and automation
  • Collaborative mindset with experience across teams and external stakeholders
  • Background in infrastructure, environmental planning, urban development, or similar fields with spatial data use

Interview Process

First stage online interview on 17 October; successful candidates will be invited to an interview at our office in Durham on 27 October.
