Overview

The Data Engineering Manager is a key role in the Data Platform Portfolio team, building the data platform and driving value from data across the business. This role requires strong technical skills and business acumen to transform millions of potential data points into actionable insights that support product improvements, customer acquisition, retention, and operating efficiency.

The primary goals of the team are to build and run a data platform that can deliver analytics and reporting to colleagues; ingest and transform data from multiple systems; model data and engineer data marts to create reusable data assets; and create a self-service BI platform enabling colleagues across Rentokil Initial to get value from data.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Data Engineers and Analysts to build and operate the Data and Analytics platform for Rentokil Initial.
• Define data principles, data architecture and data governance for the data platform.
• Deliver data quality assessments and improvement plans.
• Directly and indirectly deliver key reports and analytical insights to a wide variety of stakeholders.
• Support the data agenda with platform reporting and strategy; enable the Data Community to get value from data using a self-serve framework.
• Catalogue and communicate the Data Platform data sets available for use to digital product teams.
• Develop report automation use cases demonstrating how migrating from traditional methods improves data quality and efficiency.
• Explore key innovation initiatives with the business to reimagine how data is used to create value.
• Collaborate across the organisation to build solutions that serve multiple areas of the business.
• Accountable for the performance of 3rd party suppliers providing data analysis delivery services.

Requirements

• Previous experience leading a team of Software Engineers, with responsibility for their development and coaching on required behaviors.
• Experience scaling/growing technology teams.
• Technical leadership in architecting and delivering complex software projects with Agile methods (e.g., Scrum, SAFe).
• Strong ability to communicate with IT and business stakeholders at various levels.
• Advanced experience in designing and creating data models; strong SQL skills; understanding of relational data and multi-dimensional fact data.
• Experience deploying solutions in Cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP), ideally GCP.
• Overall business intelligence knowledge; experience using ETL tools for data integration (batch and streaming).
• Willingness to self-study and learn new skills as tasks evolve.
• Hands-on experience with modern CI/CD techniques to automate data solution build and deployment.
• Experience with source code version control (e.g., Git, Bitbucket).
• Desirable: experience with real-time processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark/Beam) and related business use cases.
• Desirable: experience with BigQuery, Java and/or Python.
• Experience adhering to Information Security standards, support procedures and incident response.
• Strong prioritisation and communication skills.
