OverviewData Privacy Lawyer – 4+ years PQELocation: London, Manchester, Edinburgh or GlasgowWe are seeking a 4+ years PQE Data Privacy Lawyer to join our market-leading international Technology, Media & Telecoms (TMT) practice, specialising in technology with a focus on data privacy. This role may be based in London, Manchester, Edinburgh or Glasgow.Background to the RoleThe TMT practice is diverse, handling transactional, dispute and advisory work. The data privacy team sits within TMT and includes over 50 partners, legal directors and lawyers across a wide network of offices. The team supports the business on the importance of data protection and privacy measures across sectors, including novel areas of law such as online child safety regulations and AI regulation. The team collaborates with the contentious data privacy team on regulatory investigations and litigation matters.Purpose of the RoleThe key elements of the role are:Advising on a full range of data privacy matters, including regulatory compliance, privacy impact assessments, data subject requests, contract negotiation, data protection compliance programmes and international data transfersProviding subject-matter expertise on data privacy claims and regulatory investigationsAdvising on new areas of digital regulation, including AI regulationAssisting with business development to win new clients and develop data workstreams from existing clients — including attending conferences, writing articles, and engaging with client relationship teamsProviding data privacy input in contractual/transactional IT contracts, services agreements, complex transfers of data (intra-group and arm’s length), data licensing, data sharing agreements, and online terms; some IT/commercial drafting may be involvedSupervising junior fee-earners and leading on matters with clients, developing relationships with clients and cross-firm teams on large client mandatesKnowledge, Skills And Experience RequiredHands-on experience advising on data protection projects, including EU/UK GDPR compliance, international data transfers, privacy notices, processor clauses/agreements, direct marketing and e-Privacy issuesAwareness of upcoming regulatory changes in data protectionThe CandidateThe successful candidate will ideally have experience in a large tech/commercial practice, specialising in data protection. They should be technically excellent, commercially aware, and enthusiastic about data privacy.
