The Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Data Protection Lead to join our London-based privacy team. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring Numan’s compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 18), the Data Use and Access Act (DUAA), and other relevant data protection legislation. This role is ideal for a subject-matter expert in data protection who can advise the business, implement robust policies, and foster a company-wide culture of data privacy.
You\'ll be:
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining data protection policies and procedures in line with UK GDPR and other regulations.
- Monitoring compliance through regular audits and reviews.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for all data protection matters, internally and externally.
- Providing expert advice and guidance to all departments on issues such as complaints, data breaches, and international data transfers.
- Conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, systems, and processes.
- Overseeing and managing Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), ensuring responses within statutory timescales.
- Managing the data breaches lifecycle, including timely reporting to the ICO and data subjects when required.
- Maintaining the Record of Processing Activities (RoPA) and related records (vendor and entity processing, consent, policy documents, legitimate interest assessments).
- Managing the Retention Schedule and advising teams on records management responsibilities.
- Designing and delivering data protection training for employees at all levels.
- Working closely with Clinical, Product, IT, Security, Legal, and People teams to embed privacy by design and default.
- Representing Numan in discussions with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders.
We\'re looking for someone who has:
- Proven experience in a dedicated data protection role in the UK (experience in digital healthcare a bonus).
- In-depth knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 18, PECR, and DUAA.
- Ideally holds a recognised data protection certification (e.g., CIPP/E).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, applying complex legal requirements in practical ways.
- Effective communication and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work autonomously, managing multiple priorities.
- High integrity and discretion in handling sensitive information.
It\'s a bonus if you have:
- Experience with privacy management software such as OneTrust.
- Familiarity with international data protection regulations (EU GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
- Experience conducting privacy audits and risk assessments.
Our benefits include...
- Share options.
- 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays (increasing to 30 the longer you stay with Numan).
- Health insurance with Vitality.
- Enhanced maternity and parental leave.
- Nursery benefit provided by YellowNest.
- Employee assistance programme (access to therapy, financial planning and discounts).
- Generous pension (includes both employee and employer contributions).
- Flexible working options, including a dog-friendly office in Farringdon.
- Personal training and development budget via Learnerbly.
- Wellhubmembership, giving you access to over 2,000 locations in the UK.
- Free office snacks including breakfast items, soft drinks, tea and coffee.
- Cycle to work scheme.
- Season ticket loan.
- Discount on Numan products for your friends and family.
- Paid volunteering days.
- An additional 2 weeks off once you reach your 5th anniversary with Numan.
