As a Data Technology Manager, you’ll shape and modernise our data strategy and technology stack, ensuring a forward-thinking, efficient, and best-practice approach. Reporting to the Head of Data Technology and CRM, you’ll set the vision for our data architecture while staying close to the action: building, problem-solving, and delivering solutions alongside your team.

This is a role where you’ll lead from the front, providing technical guidance, hands-on expertise, and strategic direction in equal measure. You’ll oversee the modernisation of our Azure-based data environment, champion scalable and resilient data pipelines, and drive adoption of tools such as Fabric, Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, and Delta Lake. Working across all areas of the IET, you’ll ensure our data is secure, accessible, and delivering maximum value for analytics, business intelligence, and operational excellence. You’ll foster a culture of technical excellence in the Data team, guiding offshore development, collaborating with business stakeholders, and making impactful architectural decisions that keep us at the forefront of innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and modernise The IET’s data architecture, ensuring alignment with best practice and strategic goals.
  • Drive adoption of Azure data technologies such as Fabric, Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, and Delta Lake.
  • Develop and maintain scalable, resilient data pipelines to support analytics and reporting.
  • Stay hands-on in solving technical challenges, implementing solutions, and ensuring the reliability of our data platforms.
  • Introduce and enhance self-service reporting capabilities for stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Work closely with analytics and business teams to optimise data accessibility, usability, and quality.
  • Collaborate with Information Security to implement robust data security measures.
  • Design and deliver advanced analytics and BI solutions using tools such as Power BI.
  • Lead and develop the Data team, including offshore contributors, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Keep ahead of industry trends to ensure The IET remains at the forefront of data technology innovation.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a senior data engineering role, ideally with team leadership responsibilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Azure analytics ecosystem and core Azure data technologies.
  • Strong programming skills in C#, SQL, PowerShell, and Python.
  • Experience in AI/ML implementation within Azure environments.
  • Confidence in both strategic planning and hands-on delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience in Agile environments.
  • Technical credibility in architectural decision-making and governance best practice.
  • Proactive approach to innovation, process improvement, and continuous learning.
  • Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate certification (desirable) and exposure to Power Platform.
