Deputy Head of Compliance Monitoring based in London. This hybrid role requires working in the office at least three days per week.
Compliance Monitoring is part of the UK Regional Compliance function, within the Second Line of Defence (2LOD) supporting Marsh McLennan’s UK businesses. In the UK, Guy Carpenter is Marsh Ltd’s Appointed Representative. The role deputises for the Head of Compliance Monitoring, UK Region, and leads and supports Compliance Monitoring reviews to ensure issues are remediated by the business in accordance with the agreed methodology.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support on Compliance Monitoring reviews, ensuring quality and timely delivery within the agreed scope and resources.
- Develop and deliver the risk-based Compliance Monitoring Plan and the Compliance Monitoring methodology.
- Provide regular reporting to governance committees and maintain effective team prioritisation and resource management.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Compliance function on strategies and projects; manage stakeholder engagement across the Three Lines of Defence in the UK, including the wider LCPA function.
What you will rely on
Leadership and Management of Compliance Monitoring Reviews
- Understand the processes and competencies required to complete a Compliance Monitoring review.
- Manage all components of a review (including scope and approach) and the review team to deliver the required quality within the timeframe.
- Ensure that resource budgets are managed effectively.
- Clarify roles and responsibilities of stakeholders relevant to each review, including the Accountable Executive for the business area.
- Agree remedial actions and track progress through to closure.
- Propose improvements to the effectiveness of the Compliance Monitoring review process.
- Carry out peer reviews of completed monitoring reviews to support oversight of team activities.
Reporting
- Prepare monitoring reports to specified standards with minimal changes required.
- Conduct quality reviews of review evidence to support findings.
- Provide clear evidence to support remedial actions.
- Ensure critical findings are reported promptly as appropriate.
- Achieve buy-in from the Accountable Executive to the report findings and remedial actions.
- Provide context to findings in relation to broader risk, control and governance issues.
Communication
- Demonstrates advanced influencing, persuasion and negotiating skills.
- Presents with confidence to senior leaders.
- Negotiates with senior management to ensure monitoring recommendations are agreed and acted upon.
- Reports progress versus plan and status of outstanding monitoring issues and remedial actions.
- Maintains effective working relationships with a wide range of senior stakeholders.
Leads People
- Provides leadership in the absence of the Head of Compliance Monitoring and supports the team as required.
What you need to have
- Extensive experience of compliance monitoring in the UK regulatory environment.
- Proven track record in compliance experience within at least one of (re)insurance / (re)insurance broking / employee benefits / wealth management, or across more than one of these areas.
- People management skills.
- Proven ability to build strong, constructive relationships with business leaders and senior colleagues.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
- University Degree or recognised industry accreditation.
