Overview
Deputy Head of Pensions Finance & Payroll – Join Our Team at Brightwell. An exciting opportunity has come available to support the leadership and management of a high-performing team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring members’ benefits are paid accurately and on time, including the smooth and compliant processing of pensioner payroll. You’ll oversee the day-to-day finance and payroll operations for Member Services’ clients, while also ensuring the accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of scheme financials.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and process client Scheme pensioner payrolls (circa 306,000 pensioner records as of June 2025) including HMRC interfaces.
- Provide effective leadership for the pension finance and payroll teams in accordance with the wider business strategy and performance priorities; line management to key team members as directed.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across functions, ensuring expectations are managed and processes and ways of working, including project activities, are integrated with teams across the business.
- Oversee the reconciliation and payment requests for Scheme contributions, liaising with sponsoring employee Finance and payroll teams and with the management company receiving the contributions.
- Oversee the accounting for client scheme transactions and review/sign off monthly accounts for pension schemes; ensure client reports are submitted in a timely manner.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven ability to lead and manage Pensions Finance and Payroll teams, typically at a middle management level for at least five years.
- Ability to lead teams, guide and coach staff to deliver quality outcomes.
- Finance qualification such as CIMA or ACCA.
- Knowledge of transactional processing methodologies and control frameworks.
- Ability to analyse and evaluate complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
- Experience and knowledge of pension schemes.
- Payroll knowledge and experience.
- Experience in supporting delivery of projects.
