Astute's Power Team is partnered with a market-leading Energy company, to recruit for a Design Manager to oversee District Heating Projects. The role offers hybrid working with the expectation to be at their office in Central London at least once a week.

The vital Design Manager role comes with a basic salary of £60,000 + car or car allowance (£550 per month) + up to 15% bonus + other excellent benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Overseeing the design team, handling absences, holidays, and any disciplinary issues.
• Conducting performance appraisals and set objectives for team members.
• Hold regular daily and weekly meetings to monitor project progress and task completion.
• Plan workflows to ensure design deadlines are consistently achieved.
• Lead and motivate the design team to maximize performance and output.
• Mentor junior staff, offering technical guidance on design work and specialist software, particularly Autodesk tools.
• Review client or consultant drawings, providing feedback or approval where necessary.
• Maintain regular communication with the operations manager and project managers to report on design progress.
• Escalate urgent design or construction issues to the Head of District Heating Operations.
• Provide clients with ongoing updates on design process

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Ideally a degree in a relevant engineering subject such as Mechanical Engineering (not a necessity)

Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Design Manager role would suit someone who has:

• Prior experience working in District Heating Design roles
• Good knowledge of AutoCAD and Civils 3D
• Knowledge of CP1 and other relevant regulations
• Site experience would be preferable with a valid CSCS card to be able to attend sites
• Ideally some experience of leading a team
