Overview

Design Systems Manager for BBC Studios. Lead the evolution of a global design system, collaborating with designers, engineers, and product leaders to build scalable, accessible, and elegant solutions that impact millions of users worldwide. This is a hybrid, permanent, full-time role based in London.

Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and evolution of the BBC’s global design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment across multiple products and platforms.
  • Define, document, and govern design guidelines, principles, and best practices, championing accessibility, inclusivity, and a cohesive visual language.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and design operations to build efficient, reusable components and improve workflows between design and development.
  • Provide training, support, and mentorship to internal teams, fostering adoption of the design system and guiding junior designers.
  • Contribute to the creative vision of the product suite, stay informed on industry trends, and actively promote a collaborative, innovative work culture.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years of experience in digital product design/UX within a team environment, with a strong portfolio showcasing multiple relevant projects.
  • Expertise in Figma and proficiency in using digital collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Miro, Zoom, Teams).
  • Solid understanding of design tokens and how they map to code for consistency across platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and how design translates into development.
  • Deep understanding of WCAG accessibility standards and a process-oriented, detail-driven approach to documentation.

Desirable But Not Required

  • Experience working in the news media industry.
  • Familiarity with emerging design technologies, trends, and tools.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership through mentoring or guiding junior creatives.
  • Passion for user-centered design, with creative problem-solving skills and an interest in evolving digital audience behaviors.
