Job Description:
Director, Agentic Architecture and Development
Location: Europe, home-based/hybrid
At IQVIA, we are continuously expanding the boundaries of what’s possible in clinical development through advanced analytics, cutting-edge technology, and deep scientific expertise. Within our Research & Development Solutions (RDS) organization, we are enhancing our services with agentic systems—autonomous AI agents that can reason, plan, act, and learn—to further streamline clinical trial workflows and accelerate the delivery of new therapies. By embedding these capabilities into our service offerings for our customers and the clinical sites that we engage with to run clinical trials, we not only strengthen our leadership in AI-driven clinical research, but also bring life-changing treatments to patients faster and more efficiently.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and senior technology leader to serve as the Director of Agentic Architecture and Development. This critical role will shape the future of how autonomous agents are architected, developed, and deployed within IQVIA’s RDS technology ecosystem.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in enterprise architecture, solution design, and agentic systems, along with a strong ability to collaborate across technical teams and business units. This person will work closely with GTO’s Enterprise Architect and Solution Architect in a “3-in-a-box” model to ensure alignment, scalability, and compliance across all agent-based initiatives.
- Lead the definition and evolution of the agentic architecture framework across RDS workflows.
- Collaborate with GTO’s Enterprise Architect and Solution Architect to ensure consistency, compliance, and alignment with enterprise standards.
- Ensure architectural decisions support scalability, security, maintainability, and performance of agent-based systems.
Agent Development Oversight:
- Provide technical leadership and oversight in the development of agentic workflows across RDS squads.
- Guide engineering teams on best practices in building, testing, and deploying intelligent agents.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and platforms for agent development.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Serve as the key liaison between RDS squads and GTO, translating squad-level requirements into enterprise architecture and tech stack decisions.
- Facilitate feedback loops from development teams back to GTO to influence strategic choices in infrastructure, tooling, and platform evolution.
Ecosystem Integration:
- Assess the current RDS technology ecosystem to determine integration points, dependencies, and required enhancements for supporting agentic systems.
- Develop and propose a roadmap for scalable deployment of agents within the existing infrastructure.
- Identify and address potential gaps or risks in the tech stack related to agentic adoption.
- Advise on selection of technologies, programming languages, AI/ML models, orchestration engines, and deployment platforms.
- Influence the long-term direction of RDS’s technical architecture in light of agentic advancements and market trends.
Talent and Team Enablement:
- Mentor and upskill internal teams on agentic systems, architecture principles, and development methodologies.
- Help define hiring needs and skill development programs to build internal capacity.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s or higher preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years in software architecture or enterprise architecture roles.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing complex distributed systems, ideally with exposure to agent-based architectures or autonomous systems.
- Proven track record working with AI/ML pipelines, microservices, and cloud-native platforms.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across product, engineering, and enterprise architecture.
Technical Skills:
- Deep understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).
- Familiarity with agentic concepts, LLMs, reasoning engines, planning systems, and agent orchestration platforms (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI).
- Strong grasp of modern DevOps, CI/CD, cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), and containerization technologies.
- Knowledge of data architecture, API design, and integration patterns.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strategic thinker with a strong bias for execution.
- Ability to lead through influence and navigate complex organizational dynamics.
This role is not eligible for UK visa sponsorship.
