Director, Business Development – UK Territory

Reports to: Vice President, Business Development – Europe
About the Role
We are a Director of Business Development to lead growth efforts in the UK market. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a high-performance commercial team at a leading global contract research and manufacturing organization specializing in integrated drug discovery, development, and manufacturing services for the biopharma industry.
As the Director of Business Development, you will be responsible for driving strategic business expansion with biotech and pharmaceutical clients, building long-term partnerships, and promoting our drug discovery service portfolio across target accounts. You will have a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with scientific and operational teams to deliver tailored solutions that help clients accelerate their R&D programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a targeted business development strategy to expand market share in the UK.
- Identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities with biotech, pharma, and academic clients.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with decision-makers and influencers across the drug discovery ecosystem.
- Partner with internal scientific teams to shape compelling proposals and solutions that address client needs.
- Achieve and exceed revenue growth targets and other key performance metrics.
- Provide market insights to inform strategic planning and service innovation.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, networking events, and client meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven track record (5+ years) in business development, sales, or account management within CRO/CDMO services, with a strong focus on drug discovery.
- Established network within the UK biotech and pharma sectors.
- Strong understanding of the drug discovery process, from hit identification through lead optimization.
- Demonstrated success in closing multi-year, high-value service agreements.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a distributed global team.
- Advanced education preferred in life science related field
