Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education, is entering a transformative phase following the departure of our director of 20 years. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Director & Chief Executive Officer to lead Engage into its next chapter. The successful candidate will be a passionate advocate for visual arts engagement, with the strategic insight and leadership skills to guide a respected national organisation through renewal and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Set and deliver Engage\'s mission, vision, and values in collaboration with the Board.
  • Ensure strong governance, stakeholder engagement, and financial sustainability.
  • Lead a high-performing, inclusive team; oversee operations, compliance, and work with our members.
  • Drive innovation, income diversification, and sector relevance.
  • Represent Engage publicly; champion equity and inclusion; foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • Showcase a collaborative, hands-on leadership style with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Travel as required; work in a full-time capacity with flexible/remote arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in visual arts engagement.
  • Strategic insight and leadership experience guiding a national organisation through renewal and growth.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills; ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, hands-on approach to leadership, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

Salary and Location

Salary: £60-65k

This is a full-time role, mostly remote with some travel required.

Location: All Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland
