Job Summary
The Materials Engagement & Partnership Director will spearhead the strategic engagement of companies and organizations working directly with Tier 4 (raw material production and primary processing) producers, including standards systems, branded fibers, sustainability programs, and initiatives. This role oversees a team to meaningfully engage Tier 4 partners, driving engagement and buy-in around Textile Exchange efforts to scale preferred production systems. The Director reports to the Senior Director of Engagement and Partnership and will advance climate and nature targets through stakeholder engagement.
The Director will drive engagement with Tier 4 to promote activities, reporting on progress, adoption of the standards system, and addressing barriers to the transition to preferred production. A strong background in multi-stakeholder initiatives is essential, with a focus on ensuring producer voices are heard in decision-making. The ideal candidate will have experience in grant-making and fund distribution to support on-the-ground transition activities. The candidate should have deep expertise in the apparel, agriculture, and recycling sectors, with a collaborative mindset to create value for Tier 4 partners.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to engage organizations and companies that work directly with Tier 4 producers, ensuring representation in tool design and testing, adoption, and value delivery.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of material-focused specialists, collaborating with Industry Engagement and Activation teams to engage stakeholders through events, field visits, webinars, roundtables, and workshops.
- Partnership Development: Cultivate strategic partnerships with raw material producer groups, Tier 4 initiatives, and other sustainability schemes to drive collaborative impact.
- Process Development & Implementation: Establish and refine processes to support Tier 4 engagement, including regional engagement strategies and workflow efficiency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Feedback: Facilitate feedback loops between Tier 4 stakeholders and Textile Exchange internal teams, contributing to governance processes and ensuring voices from producers are heard.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to engage Tier 4-facing organizations, driving participation in Textile Exchange activities, standards, and tools for progress tracking.
- Manage and grow the Materials Engagement & Partnership team to ensure collaboration with Tier 4 organizations and effective use of Textile Exchange tools and resources.
- Establish systems for gathering and analyzing stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement of tools and resources.
- Design and oversee engagement strategies to increase knowledge, usage, and satisfaction with Textile Exchange activities.
- Raise awareness of Textile Exchange contributions to climate and nature benefits.
- Oversee events, workshops, webinars, and roundtables to support Tier 4 engagement and knowledge sharing across the global network.
- Collaborate across Textile Exchange to align engagement with other departments.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of Textile Exchange tools and resources, maintaining feedback loops aligned with Tier 4 priorities.
- Work with other departments to track metrics that measure engagement impact against Textile Exchange goals.
- Manage budgets for the Materials Engagement & Partnership team.
- Travel and represent Textile Exchange across a broad range of stakeholders.
- Maintain team satisfaction and motivation to drive results.
Minimum Experience And Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in sustainability, particularly in the apparel, agriculture, and textile sectors, with a preference for prior engagement with the Textile Exchange network.
- Deep understanding of challenges and opportunities for Tier 4 collaborations to achieve climate and nature impact.
- Strong engagement, networking, and communication skills with experience in strategic engagement planning.
- Proven ability to achieve results through collaboration across departments and stakeholders.
- Experience managing teams and budgets, with a collaborative approach.
- Experience delivering learning and networking experiences through events, workshops, and webinars.
- Public speaking experience and ability to represent Textile Exchange in various settings.
- Willingness to travel as required for the role.
Employment Package
- Reports to: Senior Director, Engagement & Partnerships
- Full-Time Position, 40 Hours a Week
- Location: Virtual/Remote
- Annual Salary Range: $140,000 - $175,000 USD
- Start date to be agreed upon; role to be filled as soon as possible.
