The Role
The Director of Membership will lead the overarching strategy for growing, engaging, and retaining a high-quality membership community. The role demands a commercially minded, purpose-driven individual with experience in scaling communities, driving retention, and delivering measurable impact. Working closely with the SLT (COO, Commercial Director etc) you’ll take full ownership of the membership function and help evolve the offering to remain best-in-class within the purpose-led business space.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver the overall membership strategy, including acquisition, retention, and engagement.
- Own the end-to-end membership journey, from onboarding and renewal to satisfaction and loyalty.
- Drive revenue growth through membership sales, business development, strategic partnerships, and group opportunities.
- Lead and mentor the membership team to deliver exceptional performance and service.
- Analyse membership data and trends to inform strategic decisions and continuously improve the offer.
- Create and refine membership packages that appeal to a high-calibre, luxury-focused audience.
- Build and nurture relationships with prospective and existing members through regular touchpoints and events.
- Collaborate across departments to align programming, hospitality, and community engagement.
- Represent the club at external events and within relevant networks to attract new members.
- Maintain accountability for membership P&L, KPIs, and reporting to senior leadership.
Essential experience
- Minimum 5 years of senior-level experience in membership, community, or commercial roles.
- Proven track record in delivering strong growth, retention, and member engagement strategies.
- Solid understanding of the impact, sustainability, or purpose-driven business space.
- Demonstrable commercial and analytical ability with experience owning a P&L.
- Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
- Passion for social/environmental change and community-building.
Bonus experience
- An existing network within the sustainability or social impact ecosystem.
- Previous experience working in a high-profile or exclusive membership-based organisation.
- Comfort with speaking at and hosting events and representing a brand externally.
- Ability to introduce fresh programming ideas and new revenue opportunities.
