About The Role

We’re looking for a Director of People and Operations to join our team on a 12-month fixed term basis, leading our People and Operations functions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced startup environments and is passionate about building high-performance cultures that drive business success.

Reporting directly to Michael, one of our co-founders, you will work closely with our wider operations team and leadership across the business. This is a hands-on role where you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our organisational development and operational excellence. This is a 5 days per week role, with the expectation that you would be in our London office 3 days a week. There is an opportunity for this position to transition into a long term role in the wider business after the initial 12 month period.

About You

We'd like to hear from you if you meet the following criteria:

  • You currently work in a startup, across an operational or commercial role, with 7+ years experience
  • You have led organisational change initiatives or supported rapid scaling in some capacity
  • You enjoy fast-paced work and thrive on ambiguity
  • You can build trust quickly and handle sensitive/confidential matters with discretion
  • You are pragmatic, a problem solver and comfortable balancing being people-focused with making tough business decisions when needed
  • You share in our mission to transform clinical trials

What You'll Be Responsible For

Team Coaching and Development

  • Lead, manage and coach the People and Operations team, ensuring delivery of responsibilities below; ultimately accountable for team performance and impact

Organisational Strategy

  • Collaborate with co-founders, the executive team and talent function on organisational planning and strategy
  • Own headcount planning and review processes with Exec, Finance and Talent
  • Drive organisation change management where required
  • Lead people data, insights and analysis, including employee surveys, to inform retention, engagement and performance metrics
  • Oversee salary banding, market reviews and remuneration decisions at review periods

People Operations and Wider Projects

  • Oversee operational delivery of people initiatives with People Partners
  • Process improvement and automation to streamline People operations
  • Roll out learning and development initiatives, including manager training
  • Lead onboarding review and optimisation for new hires
  • Own core HR systems and processes
  • Develop and roll out benefit strategies

People Partnering

  • Oversee people partnering with a focus on team development and growth needs
  • Embed management best practices and a culture of continuous feedback and coaching
  • Manage employee relations issues, conflict resolution and disciplinary processes if needed
  • Ensure HR policies comply with legal requirements
  • Oversee performance management, including coaching, reviews, remuneration and promotions
  • Support career pathways and progression for teams

Business Operations

  • Line manage the Office Manager (London) and IT security/operations, coordinating with the product team and outsourced IT vendor

Our Hiring Process

  • First interview with Gaby (VP People and Operations) – 30 minutes
  • Functional take-home task, presented at interview with Gaby and Michael – 45 minutes
  • Values interview with the Co-Founders – 30 minutes

We try to arrange for at least one interview to be in-person so you can see our office and meet more of the team.
