Overview
Director of Data Engineering – Chase UK at JPMorgan Chase. The role focuses on delivering end-to-end data pipeline solutions on cloud infrastructure, enabling data-driven decision making across functional areas such as finance, treasury operations, financial crime prevention, regulatory reporting and analytics. This position is part of a geographically distributed, diverse team within the International Consumer Bank, based in London, UK.
Responsibilities
- Lead data engineering teams to achieve functional technology objectives and continuously update technologies and patterns.
- Make strategic decisions that influence resources, budget, and the implementation of processes and procedures.
- Carry governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success (cost of ownership, maintainability, portfolio operations).
- Deliver end-to-end data pipeline solutions on cloud infrastructure using current best practices.
- Use domain modelling to build best-in-class business products.
- Structure software for readability, testability, evolution, and scalability; avoid single points of failure.
- Develop secure code; promptly investigate and fix issues and prevent recurrence.
- Ensure releases occur with zero downtime for end users.
- Ensure data is written and read in a way optimized for business needs.
- Monitor performance and reliability; keep systems easy to operate.
- Support products throughout their lifecycle, including production and incident management.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities & Skills
- Formal training or certification in data engineering; strong experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain.
- Recent hands-on professional experience as a data engineer.
- Experience coding in Python (recent version).
- Understanding of event-driven architecture, data streaming and messaging frameworks.
- Experience designing and implementing effective tests (unit, component, integration, end-to-end, performance).
- Experience with cloud technologies and distributed systems.
- Experience with data transformation frameworks and data pipeline orchestration tools.
- Experience managing large data volumes and optimizing data processing.
- Coaching others on coding practices, design principles, and maintainable solutions.
- Ability to manage stakeholders and prioritize work across multiple work streams.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities & Skills
- Experience in highly regulated environments/industries.
- Experience with AWS cloud technologies.
- Experience with data governance frameworks.
- Understanding of incremental data processing and versioning.
- Understanding of RESTful APIs and web technologies.
