Director, Software Engineering - Collections Technology Modernization

Capital One's Card Tech Engineering Organization is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead, manage, mentor, and build exceptional software engineering teams to deliver game changing technologies. The Director must attract and recruit top talent and have the technical skills to build compelling, customer-focused solutions in an iterative methodology.

As a candidate for this role, you will switch from deep technical collaboration with engineers to driving high-level, strategic discussions. You are a curious technologist who stays on top of emerging trends, prototypes nascent technologies, questions existing processes when needed, and focuses on business value and priorities.

As Director of Software Engineering in Capital One’s CardTech Customer Resiliency (CR) team, you will lead Collections technology teams focused on modernizing the data ecosystem and the core of the real time intelligent collections (RTIC) application. In CR Collections, we service Card customers in difficult financial moments to help them return to good standing. With RTIC, we are modernizing to support highly flexible, configurable, and extensible solutions using Capital One enterprise platforms. You will be part of this modernization journey.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product focused software engineers
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team
• Work with product leaders to define the strategy, roadmap, and destination architecture
• Manage a portfolio of diverse technology platforms and projects to build scalable applications that meet customer needs
• Continuously improve software engineering practices
• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies
• Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions
• Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other engineers
• Encourage innovation and the use of cutting-edge technologies, with outside-the-box thinking and teamwork

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 7 years’ experience in software development
• At least 5 years’ experience in people management
• At least 3 years of experience in public cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree
• 10+ years of experience in software development
• 3+ years of experience building and scaling consumer applications
• 4+ years of experience with AWS

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $263,900 - $301,200 for Director, Software Engineering

New York, NY: $287,800 - $328,500 for Director, Software Engineering

Richmond, VA: $239,900 - $273,800 for Director, Software Engineering

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
