Overview

We are seeking an experienced Drainage Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team and deliver innovative Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) solutions across a variety of projects, from schools and highways to parks and public spaces. This role offers hybrid working, with a balance of site-based collaboration and remote flexibility.

Location: Peterborough (Hybrid – 2–3 days on site/with stakeholders)

Contract: Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of concept, outline, and detailed SuDS designs using Civil3D and InfoDrainage.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including modelling, CAD, construction, and landscape architecture teams.
  • Engage with local authorities, highways departments, schools, and community groups to co-design effective drainage solutions.
  • Provide design support through the construction phase, fulfilling Designer responsibilities under CDM 2015.
  • Apply CIRIA guidance, British Standards, and regional design frameworks to ensure compliance and best practice.
  • Produce safe, practical, and maintainable SuDS designs with a focus on long-term sustainability and performance.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a dynamic and collaborative engineer with:

  • A degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (2:1 or higher preferred).
  • Proven experience delivering SuDS solutions across the full project lifecycle.
  • Expertise in working in retrofit and constrained urban environments.
  • Strong knowledge of drainage design standards and health & safety principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A passion for green infrastructure and innovative sustainable design.
