What you will be doing

As an Electrical Authorising Engineer you will be an important member of the Engineering Team and will work with the Electrical Designated Individual, Project Leads, Delivery Management and other Electrical Authorising Engineers. You will be responsible for the assessment, appointment and auditing of Electrical Authorised Persons within the Environment Division as well as ongoing monitoring of electrical safety operations to ensure compliance with the overall Electrical Safety Standard and subsequent Electrical Safety Rules and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Point of Contact for Electrical Safety within the Environment Division
  • Provide advice and support to all stakeholders relating to electrical safety.
  • Ensure activities relating to electrical safety are aligned with statutory regulation and legislation.
  • High level of technical knowledge surrounding electrical safety.
  • Experience of improving policies and procedures within your field of expertise.
  • Setting, managing, and assessing standards for competence of Engineering Safety Appointed people such as Authorised Persons and Nominated Persons.
  • Reviewing suitability of safe systems of work for delivery by Galliford Try Environment Division and contract personnel for compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Controlling and reviewing legislative records pertaining to engineering safety.
  • Providing advice on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety.
  • Providing oversight of supply chain delivery of engineering safety.
  • Making judgement on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety within area of authority.
  • Approving live working.
  • Maintaining and promoting high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Assist the Project delivery teams where necessary in ensuring CDM regulations compliance.
  • Assist with pre‑contract activities to ensure that relevant key personnel are appointed to the project for matters relating to electrical safety.

Specific requirements

  • A good understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrable high level of knowledge of maintaining LV and/or HV Electrical, Control & Instrumentation equipment.
  • Previous experience of working in an Authorising Engineer / Authorised Person role.
  • Experience of delivering electrical engineering works within the Municipal Water and Wastewater industries.
  • Experience of identifying, managing and reporting on engineering safety risks to senior management.
  • HV experience desirable.
  • DSEAR experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of C&G 2382-18 BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations & NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificates.
  • Educated to Degree level in Engineering or other equivalent qualification preferable.
  • Demonstrable experience of + 7 years working within the Municipal Water and Wastewater industries, working with a variety of clients.
  • Preference for Chartered Member of a recognised professional Engineering body.
  • Competent in a contracting / consulting environment.
  • Formal demonstratable appointment as an Electrical Authorised Person.
  • Formal demonstratable appointment as an Electrical Authorising Engineer – preferable but not essential.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor – preferable but not essential.
  • NEBOSH – preferable but not essential.
  • Competent with strong experience in reviewing subcontractors’ documentation.
  • Knowledge of current H&S legislation and British Standards.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others.
