About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the role
We are recruiting for a key position within our Employee Relations department which sits within the Culture, Strategy and Community team. Our team of Employee Relations Specialists are tasked with the management and resolution of cases relating to discipline, sickness, grievance, complex cases, and the development of management capability in these areas. We aim to develop a best practice, quality and timely service to staff and managers. As well as working closely with the organisation’s managers dealing with case volumes and complexity, you will help us to develop those managers through delivering our training workshops.
About the team
This role sits within a close-knit team of eight experienced Employee Relations (ER) specialists, all committed to providing expert guidance and support across the organisation. You’ll report into a Senior ER Specialist and work alongside two enthusiastic apprentices who bring energy and valuable assistance to the team. With a strong culture of collaboration and peer support, the team offers excellent exposure to a wide range of ER cases and broader HR topics—making it a fantastic environment for professional growth and shared success.
About you
You will have experience of managing multiple cases within a public sector environment, preferably within local government. You will also have a desire to resolve issues at their earliest point, although we will also expect the drive and tenacity to see complex cases through to conclusion. Experience of working with legal services to prepare for employment tribunal cases is essential, as is the ability to work confidently with senior managers and, potentially, elected members. Finally, you will share our desire to create a strong and innovative team that is demonstrative of the Haringey values; Caring, Collaborative, Community-focused, Courageous and Creative. We are developing a new way of working at Haringey which means you can expect a blend of working in the office and at home. We have a dynamic and diverse internal workforce, just like the population we serve. Our staff network groups promote all aspects of ‘difference’ and we want all of our employees to feel able to bring their whole self to work. We also want our employees to feel connected to Haringey and we work hard to promote development activities within the area.
Working for Haringey
At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community. Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.
