Employment Law Associate

About The Role
We’re looking for an Employment Law Associate to join one of the largest teams of employment and immigration lawyers in Wales. The successful candidate will have experience in providing day to day employment advice as well as a track record of employment tribunal work. Our clients range from international PLCs, central and local government bodies, sports clubs and charities through to claimant work arising from board level disputes. We also represent the British Medical Association, providing tribunal representation to their doctors.
We also undertake sensitive, complex, and often high-profile employment investigations, with our team forming part of the firm’s wider Business Crime Investigations Unit. Whilst previous experience of employment investigations would be helpful, a willingness to learn and develop in this area is the most important.
What We’re Looking For
Someone with experience in tribunal litigation and contentious employment advice who holds:
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience
- A genuine interest in contentious employment work and litigation with plenty of drive and enthusiasm to provide an excellent client service.
- An understanding of the importance of client relationships and experience of creating or strengthening them.
- Technical competence and commercial awareness.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with clear written presentation.
- Effective organisational skills with good time management, initiative, and problem-solving ability.
- The ability to work collaboratively with others, as part of a large team, but also the confidence to work independently.
- An interest in line management and mentorship of colleagues in the team.
- A willingness to travel regularly to Cardiff and occasionally to London, to visit clients and colleagues.
- The ability to undertake legal work in Welsh (both written and verbal) is desirable.
In return, we offer
- Flexible working – You will have the ability to work between home and the office as required.
- Health and wellbeing – Cycle to work scheme, in-person yoga, subsidised on-site weekly chiropractor visits and regular wellbeing events.
- Career development opportunities – We are a fast-growing and ambitious firm. We appreciate and value your ambition too. We offer a supportive and fully transparent career development programme, and promotion opportunities twice a year for our lawyers.
- Excellent rewards and benefits – Competitive pension scheme, annual leave entitlements, comprehensive health plan, life assurance, option to buy/sell annual leave, recognition scheme, Chef onsite – free lunch on Mondays and Tuesdays, shower facilities onsite, regular social events, and lots more.
- A great location and working environment – Cardiff is a fantastic place to live and work. Our office, in the city centre, is right in the middle of it all, yet only a short drive from some of the best of the Welsh coast and countryside.
We are committed to maintaining an inclusive work environment. We encourage equality and diversity and treat all job applicants and colleagues fairly— regardless of age, gender, disability, ethnicity, religion or any religious or cultural beliefs, marital status and civil partnership, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity. We have no tolerance for discrimination.
Here, we can be ourselves, succeed on merit, and grow with people from all walks of life.
Important Notice to Recruitment Agencies
Please note that Capital Law operates a Preferred Supplier List (PSL) for recruitment. We do not accept unsolicited CVs from agencies not on our current PSL. If a CV is submitted to us without prior agreement and outside of our current PSL, we reserve the right to contact the candidate directly without incurring any agency fees.
